What they can learn is, Lara can still remain a badass character even if they adhere to the original design which might not appeal to the current PC brigade but the fans who supported the series from the beginning. They can also give people more options so that those who want tank tops and shorts or bikinis in the snowy climates can have that and those who want more realistic clothing can choose that too. Might be right now, but if you look back at dial-up internet in the early 2000s and compare to the high speeds we're getting now you could say the same thing. Totally impossible to consider cloud streaming games back then. There might be other trickery they could employ such as predictive movements or data compression where the latency is reduced to levels where it's on par with things like Air Link now.
If FaceMetaBook can somehow with Carmack and anyone elses' help get cloud-based VR gaming down to acceptable levels on all fronts (latency and visuals), then Quest [insert iteration] will appeal to a lot more people. The mobile graphics are just not good enough compared to tethered systems as of now. Quest Air Link or using a cable requires the beefy PC to run it, increasing the cost but it is currently the market leader I think.
The inherent problem with VR in general is the difficulty showing how cool it actually is from a 2D trailer or video. They use all sorts of tricks to convey the idea but it is not the same. What VR has always needed is familiar AAA franchises for the platform but made as AAA franchises in VR not cheap/gimmicky spin-offs. There are now quite a number of great VR games of this calibre already tho but the platform needs more quality of which is coming slowly.
The clue is in the game's name "extraction". Not the in-game characters but the players.
I really think this is more Ubi's plan to get the game out there to as many people as possible so that the MTX revenue is maxed. That is where the money's at for them for this type of game.
