the one thing you haven't mentioned that could gradually make a difference is the 'casual' gamers familiarity with the Sony brand name. Atari revolutionised the idea of video games. They may not have been the absolute first, but they deffinitely, made the most impact in the early days, so respect to him for that.Of course, its a very different market now,so agree with him or not, but the ATARI brand remains part of our gaming heritage. Ask any PC gamer and he/she will tell you that often you must reduce the res in order to improve the performance and fx qualities.This applies to consoles as well.If PS3 is running DMC at 1080p 60fps, then thats brilliant,no doubt.
