I don't believe that the article says anything about Phil Fish ODing, getting drunk and driving, or killing himself.
I can't think of any movie creators or musicians that basically stopped what they were doing because of internet trolling. Sure, Phil Fish was being a dick. So were all of the people trolling him.
dolla dolla bill y'all
Well that's a classic example of an apologist.
This. This this this this this.
I worked in PC repair when Windows ME came out. We called it Windows Migraine Edition.
XP was great. Then Vista was a travesty. Then 7 was great again. Now 8 is crappy but only really because of the Metro interface. And if you load up a 3rd party start menu like classicshell (which is free), you never need to see Metro again. The OS as a whole gets a bad rap because the changes under the hood are quite good.

You can't get backwards compatibility due to the complete change in architecture. The Gaikai cloud is at least an attempt to find a consolation.
The architecture change was necessary to fix the development issues that plagued the PS3 and is a HUGE step forward, so it's a worthwhile tradeoff.
Oh boy, some timing this one has.
Did you upgrade your HDD, by any chance?
Firmware updates are scary as hell. I try to make it a habit to wait before installing - on any device - until there's community confirmation that it's working well.
Thank god I hadn't updated this yet. Though, from the sound of things, I have a stock HDD so I should be ok. Waiting anyway.
Passing the buck to the publisher is just that. Publishers can still implement their own DRM on PS4 if they want to. What's keeping EA from using full-title access codes?
Microsoft went out on their own and implemented a system-wide DRM scheme that they themselves control and enforce.
They ARE damaging restrictions because they infringe greatly on consumer rights, and draw highly into doubt any investment protection.
Your ability to play ...
It goes beyond Sony fanboyism. Any objective person comparing the two platforms can see how damaging the restrictions are that Microsoft is imposing, and for most, that transcends the few interesting exclusives. Below looks great. D4 is intriguing. Dead Rising 3 looks like a load of fun. Halo is always great.
But then Sony had Deep Down, Infamous: Second Son, The Order: 1886, and Transistor.
Like I said, both consoles had great titles. But the vast majority w...
What I don't get about all the "digital is the future" arguments is that those people seem to be completely ignoring that you CAN buy PS4 games as digital downloads. Do they mean that "having no choice" is the future??
Claiming "old school" doesn't mean anything. My first console was an Atari 2600. Doesn't make me blind to the excellent games that Sony had to show.
BOTH consoles had great titles, the vast majority of which were multiplatform. The difference was that one of them heavily infringed on consumer rights while the other didn't.
And if you're all "hey i'm old school i like gameplay," surely the fact that indie devs can self-p...
Author, I hope you're not comparing the "power" to the demos that were staged using an nVidia GTX780, a card more powerfully rated than the GPU that the Xbox One is reported to have, by a decent margin.
And nevermind that third-party devs have already stated that the PS4 has more power for their ports, one going so far as to say 40% more powerful than the Xbox One.
Fanboy flamebait. Ugh.
Don't forget about Wing Commander 3
I don't agree at all... Frictional making a horror game? Bungie making a shooter? Bethesda making an open-world RPG? Criterion games making a racing game?
The games are paired with developers who are versed in making games that would likely compliment the franchise in question in positive ways.
They've already left it behind, and Rocksteady has the potential to give the fantastic set pieces a proper open-world framework. I see the impetus.
Interesting how so much of this conversation quickly devolved into Achievements vs Trophies, whereas the article discusses neither.
Nothing in the article says anything about removing achievements.
Exactly.
The thing only says "Xbox" on it anyway. They could still change the name.
