Agree, I never use my PS4 for anything other than games. Why use it for non-gaming applications when this can be done on other much cheaper devices.
Probably close to 40 exclusives/console exclusives/timed exclusives for 2016, not including VR. Plus the best version of multi-plats. PS4 will easily dominate 2016 with much more games and diversity than the competition.
Go back to your Xbox, you don't own a PS4.
I think 2016 will be easily the best year for PS4 with the large number of exclusives and (hopefully) meaningful firmware updates with friend notifications and proper game folders etc.
I still own an Xbox 360 and have never understood why Microsoft bother with Japan. It is a waste of resources better utilised in other markets. Xbox 360 and Xbox One sales are woeful.
Oculus is not a viable option for VR due to the very high hardware spec requirements. PSvr will easily outsell Oculus.
Great that Sony and Microsoft are pushing each other so hard, very good for gamers. PS4 firmware updates have been pretty average though with some basic stuff still not done. 2016 should be awesome though, PS4 in particular has an amazing game lineup.
It can't and won't be done as Sony and Microsoft will not want to spend the sums required in frequent upgrades. It would also confuse consumers. Consoles will never be like PC's or smart phones.
Five years for Xbox One is too short a life span even with it's only average sales. It costs a lot of money to design and launch a new console and Microsoft will want to recoup their Xbox One investment. Sony and Microsoft should now be making money on their consoles and they will both want to leverage this for the next four years or so.
But 4K is becoming the default resolution for big TV's. So replacement TV's will be 4K anyway.
Good article. I would prefer the next Xbox and Playstation release late 2020 so the consoles have more power for 4K gaming, even if only at 30 fps. In particular, I think that Sony may release about this time as they have so much momentum and will want to maximise PS4 revenues.
Aside from 4K, it would be a relief for all games to have a minimum of 1080P at 60fps with full graphical effects.
I would much prefer digital downloads to game streaming. A game streaming future would be horrible.
Yep, could be one of the greatest years in gaming ever.
Yep. Injustice was one of the few decent games.
Would be totally logical but likely won't happen. Sony is mostly obsessed with indies for PS+ as they want to spend as little as possible. PS4 PS+ games and firmware updates have been decidedly below average. Sony is very complacent.
Nope, 2020 for PS5. PC is no competition, consoles are far more user friendly.
Of course sales matter, why make another game if it isn't financially viable? Future games will be cross platform certainly as PS4 sales would be much higher.
LOL, Wii U is near death and will fade to irrelevance in 2016. PS4 is the second fastest selling console in history with a blockbuster exclusive lineup in 2016.
Nintendo is incapable of delivering a console with widespread appeal. The success of the Wii is a distant memory and Nintendo is incapable of having a console with a widely diverse range of games. I can't see NX sales getting near Xbox One let alone PS4 as NX will be a niche console for the Nintendo diehards only.
I hope in 2016 that the full features of the dualshock 4 starts to be utilised for more games. I also hope that basic features for PS4 like friend notifications and proper game folders are finally implemented, basic stuff like this is way overdue.
