That is a great question. Considering Kinect is a requirement the answer more than likely is no, it wont work if it's broken. Having more moving parts that can cause problems or interruptions in service or performance is never a good thing.
Someone else on here earlier asked another great question. What happens to the console 10+ years from now if MS moves on to something else or stops support for X1? How will we play games on it if it requires an online check system ever...

You are in the massive majority of CORE gamers. I don't know 1 gamer, and I know a ton of gamers, that has said, "You know, this thing is really kind of cool." Not one. It's a novelty with extremely short shelf life for a mainstream and hardcore gamer because of it's inaccuracy.

Have you ever been in a room with a system that can hit reference level or above clean (without causing ear fatigue)? TV sound and a bunch of voices in a room compared to that kind of sound pressure / volume is a whole other stratosphere.

It's not even this (PS3/360) gen. They are using the same engine they have since COD inception. It's a modified quake engine. I'm sure some will disagree but you will be disagreeing with a fact.
Like I already said a few times this week on N4G concerning COD:Ghost, "COD fans deserve better than this and Activision made way too much money over the years not to give it to them."
It's not about E3 or waiting a year or two. It's about all the restrictions and fees MS wants us to pay or weed through. So why wait? Wait for what? It's not like any exclusive or gaming announcement will take away those restrictions or fees.
