I would like to hope it is bc of the addition of online, but online was shot down as far as I remember. Most likely it is just for time exclusive reasons.
They always have to downscale the graphics in multiplayer......mainly bc of frame rate issues. Sometimes they even use lower poly counts on everything. There is a lot more going on onscreen. I think the only exceptions are when the game is multiplayer only that you will see a big graphical jump. This should come as no suprise to anybody. it goes back all the way to the N64 Goldeneye.

Then came the horrible news, RSX appears to be limited to setting up 275 Million triangles/second, anemic compared to the 500+ million in XBox360. Ninja Gaiden black has better graphics than and looks more next gen than probably over half the 360 and PS3 games. This is not a testament to anything except team ninjas talent....This game was in development for three years. It's just sad now because fanboys will rant about how next gen it bc its on PS3, when it was next gen already on its initial release...Black was a defining masterpiece for the genre..........If anything comparing the two will make the PS3 look underpowered, bc the xbox...

I'm just impressed that Sony is puting a lot of effort into online now. PS2 was nothing compared to what they are trying to do with PS3 online.
Here is the graphics card as well as price that is in the PS3. It is an Nvidia 7900 series GS. It is old and outdated. Every video card underneath it is better and therefore costs more. these are the facts.

you would know that when Sony started engineering the cell processor in a joint effort with IBM, they also started the R&D behind Bluray. This was about 4 yrs ago.
