"Man that avatar sure does look yummy!"
Actually, yes, I am glad that Sony implemented downloading while playing games just like the 360 already had. It was a great idea. That's all there is to it. Got any more great ideas for the PS3 to use? I sure hope so cuz that's what this is all about. Two companies competing directly against one another and the customer always wins. :)
That's just barely enough for the Microsoft staff over there in Redmond right?
All kidding aside, I'm not getting this OS until service pack 1 at the earliest. I was burned too many times by going to their operating systems as soon as they released.
Good for them if they want to help. I looked into it just a little bit and it seems that it's basically the same thing as Folding@Home. It just has a different name is all. It's still dealing with proteins that are folding and it's 3 dimensional. I'll be curious to see if there are any other differences.
They're a smaller developer than Epic. They haven't had the resources or wherewithall to make something like that a possibility on their very first project on a brand-spankin-new platform. Is it not enough that they are continuing to improve this area by putting this in their next title?
I don't get your reference to the high def cable package. Explain it to me real quick?
But this isn't any better or worse than when kids were found going out into the woods to play their dice rolling, role playing games and fighting each other and then if one of them happened to die by the roll of the dice then they'd kill that kid. It doesn't matter what game it is or what the influence is. People will always find a way to kill other people and do harm in general. It's the depravity of mankind that's at fault here and not outside influences because people are bad and they w...
by implying that the PS3 is using the GPU as part of its calculation prowess in Folding. The PS3's GPU is only being used for the GUI where you can fly around the world and see the participators and where you can see the work in progress. The FAQ mentions GPU at one point when it says "On GPU and Cell hardware, functions like this can often be calculated very quickly, say in one cycle, while this is often counted as 10-20 operations for other machines." They are referencing their...
I looked at the HD video comparison and I could see right off the bat that the detail of the bricks in the dungeon on the PS3 was better. The detail on far away objects was better. There was no loading on the PS3 version where the 360 had a brief second of loading right after they got out of the sewer. There was no visible pop-in of the structure on the PS3 after that hill where the 360 loaded. There was visible pop-in on the 360, though, you can actually see the structure being built fro...
Has Level 5 done anything on the PSP before? I need something to compare their skills to when developing for the PSP.
I loved Dragon Quest 8 and I can only hope that they'll do just as good a job with this game. Should be interesting.
For whatever reason my computer has settled down and it's now averaging around 30 seconds per frame and not 30 minutes anymore. Still a staggering difference though.
I installed Folding@Home on my PS3 and I've left it running for the day today to see how it will do. When I left for work this morning it was processing at 0.08 seconds per frame. No, I didn't get that backwards. I inverted that fraction to get 12.5 frames per second. I thought to myself "Huh, that's not that fast considering games usually go about 30 to 60 frames per second." So I got curious about my work PC and how it would do. I installed it on my work PC which is a Window...
Does that guy look an aweful lot like Bob Sagget?
How could they push your system to do more when it can only do so much in the first place. It's not like a car engine where you have to stay under a certain number of RPM's or else you do damage to your engine. A computer either works or it doesn't. It either goes fast or it doesn't go at all. The programming decides how best to utilize that set speed and even if they made the programming somehow magically more efficient during this time it would still only go as fast as the top speed of ...
Besides, this is the high definition format war for high definition movies. We're not talking 3-7GB movies for this kind of quality. It's more like 20-50GB for this quality movie which really would take forever using digital distribution especially here in the states where the movie industry makes a huge impact. Digital distribution of high def really is years away.
There's also the Hypervisor that is integrated into the Cell processor which enables further security on the OS and whatever else programmers want to secure. One of the main methods for hacking a computer is to get a program to run as though it were authorized to run. The Cell processor's security to prevent unauthorized software from running or modifying other programs is fairly strong from what I know of it.
I don't seem to remember that from last generation. It was a long time ago and my memory is failing me. Can you show me a link to where they're quoted as saying this for posterity?
The iPod already offers gaming. It has been for a long time now. This isn't new to this kind of device. This is merely catching up.
The important bit of information to understand is that games don't come out either for the premium version of the 360 or the core version of the 360. You don't see 360 games that say on the package "This game is designed only for the Premium 360 (HDD must be installed)" or "This game is designed only for the Core 360 (no HDD necessary)". Every game developer has to consider the least common denominator when it comes to that console so that they have the largest customer ...
I ran mine straight for a week and a half and I just finally took a break from it so that my fiance and I could watch Kung Fu Hustle on Blu-Ray.
