Blame the kid as much as you want but divorce can have hugely negative effects, and thats the parents fault. Almost all of my friends parents are divorced, mine included. Me, I've never been emotional, but I look at the changes in my friends before and after a divorce, and before and after a parent dies and it seriously can mess them up. I think the only way it would make sense would be if there is a huge surplus of HD-DVD addon drives that they could just swap into slightly modified xboxes. If that is possible it may be a way for MS to recap losses based on poor HD-DVD addon sales.
Most large companies have joint interest holdings. It reduces risk (and potential profit). It is a conservative move, but I believe a good one. Toshiba may have made Sony an offer it couldn't resist.

Did it occur to anyone that it wasn't working because of the dust? The dust is obstructing the view of the laser (diode), and if its out of warranty he should just get it back and clean the dust out himself, a simple compressed air clean might solve all his problems.
