Sony is publicly traded on how many exchanges? Do you have any idea how much they are audited? If they lied about sales numbers they could get slammed so, so hard. Stats are easy to manipulate but auditors can make fortunes through finding mistakes so chances are if there is inconsistencies in data, an auditor is looking for it.
Really doesn't mean anything. It could mean they are selling a ton but have a ton in stock, it could mean they aren't selling. The story didn't even mention PS2s which you can find anywhere but still sell like crazy.
