About campaign length: as engines evolve, they require no more work from devs to create games with more detailed environments. So there's no reason for games to keep getting shorter.
I guess with a friend it wouldn't be so bad. It'd be like watching a bad movie with friends--so bad it's good. But solo... :S
Worst part for me, was at one of those areas where you have to kill all the enemies to proceed. One of the enemies spawned INSIDE A WALL. Obviously, I had to start over...
My first took me around 80 also, can't remember how much exactly. From NG, I could do it in less than 5 hours now! NG+ in 3 or less... lol
I have to say, though, that I didn't have the Master Key on my first playthrough. That item, and the knowledge to use it properly, will shave game time considerably.

Shortest plat to get, probably, but definitely a waste of life! I regret spending 6 hours of my life to get that one...
MAG is time consuming, but I wouldn't call it annoying. I loved every minute I spent playing that game! And at first I never expected I'd get the platinum, so I didn't even try going for some of the trophies (Eager Beaver). But after a couple hundred hours I got so close without trying, that I decided just to go for it! Definitely not a game you get just for platting though. Has to be something you do incidentally.

If you only make a few mistakes then you can easily rush through the next playthrough in only a few hours to get what it is you're missing. Dark Souls platinum isn't hard or annoying. Does take some outside knowledge, for sure, though. Some of these things would be practically impossible to find out without a guide.
Dark Souls in 1080p 60fps would be... excuse the term, but: orgasmic.

As someone who usually says "just get a PS3 already", and who considers Dark Souls one of the best games I've ever played, with over 400 hours spent in it already, I agree that it could benefit from a PC release. For two reasons:
- Framerate issues, like you said.
- NETWORK ISSUES.
The game looks great. The graphics, animations, and character models are all top notch. But at times the game does suffer...
I think he's just confident in his product, that a rental will lead to a purchase. From what I've seen of the game, I would be confident too if I was him.
I think it's a ploy! He said rent it "first". As in: "if you're on the fence about TM, rent it... then you'll want to buy it!" Potentially increasing sales by saying that.
We're talking about GAMES. More specifically, FRANCHISES. I made a parallel between one franchise and another. HOW is that so wrong? You always read people saying "I bought all CoDs since CoD4 and I've been disappointed by the last one, so I'm not going to buy the next", but they always do. HENCE, I said I'm not like a CoD fanboy and keep buying games from a franchise after I've been burned.

I only have so little time and money to devote to games. That's why, when I get burned once by a franchise, I won't buy the next installment like an idiot MW fanboy hoping it'll get better.
SCIV was a huge disappointment to me, so I'm not interested in V. Maybe a few months after release, if it still has a positive vibe, I'll look into it. But definitely not before that.

And most 3rd party games didn't sell as well as expected on the Wii, so they can't be blamed if devs choose to support the U less.
