The problem is, who is to say it'll even be 15 years? If EA can revoke FIFA 24 a year after it's release, you can bet they will to force everyone to buy FIFA 25.

Or Ubisoft release Assassins Creed in 2021, and pull the licence for AC 2020.

With full digital, you can say bye bye to retro gaming and backwards compatibility.

And how will backwards compatibility work then too? Will the licences transfer to our new consoles, or will they be revoked when a new system comes out? No, they'll charge you on an online store to play them again.

No future of retro gaming or collecting. You bet they'll screw us over.

Basically:

'We are going to tell everyone to go digital, so that we and other sinister AAA publishers can control pricing, microtransactions and how long you can keep your game licences.'.

Keep buying physical folks, or you'll pay £60-80/$80-$120 per game, that you can only play for a year when publishers release their next yearly rehash of the same game and revoke the licence for last year's. Then giving you a barebones game that has...

Just go mobile EA. You're clearly losing it like Konami did.

Loss... Have you seen EA's yearly profits?

Devs don't generally get money from MT's, as they've already developed what is in the loot boxes and have been paid for that work, it goes to the already rich publishers. If devs have to create more cosmetics, they will have to be paid their hourly rate.

More power to the devs, they already have a shit time watching their work and art be slashed to bits by publishers looking to buy a fifth superca...

So... 'Our favourite brand abandoned us and won't put in the work to bring us new, decent IPs. Give us your stuff Sony!'.

Just buy a PS4 and bite that bitter pill already.

Sounds like they mean they'll build the universe of Cyberpunk around us periodically, with minor stuff for free and larger parts like expansion DLC.

They were already doing games as a service... CDPR have always served the customer. With respect and rewarding loyalty and fandom, not more ways to rip us off.

Publishers take note.

I have been trying to tell people this for years. It goes in one ear and out the other, especially the loyal fans of the companies that screw them over at every opportunity.

Seems like there's a generation or two (along with weak willed older gamers) that are just used to being conditioned for a future that has a poor outlook. It ruins it for everyone.

You've spent more time here trying to tell everyone how good the game is, instead of playing it Ed.

That's a bit telling. Troll or shill, which is it to be?

2990d ago 3 agree1 disagreeView comment

I never said it wasn't. I'm pointing out that with card collecting, there is potential value in the stuff you don't want. With micros you can get stuck with shit you will never use and can't resell or trade.

The OP said it wasn't gambling, not me.

Yep, but there's no way to swap or sell microtransactions. Huge difference.

You can trade, sell or collect multiples at will. You can't do that with microtransactions.

Try again.

There's a lot of sites going on the 'do not touch' list today. Please don't click and read these stories, if you don't, they'll lose their ad revenue and readership.

Corporate shills like this have been helping companies brainwash the market for a good few years now.

So author, take this message on board... Piss off, we're not buying your lies.

The crazy expense is on paying guys in suits a salary to sit in an office to find more ways to screw the customers and overblown marketing. These guys also have huge tax breaks and are likely using offshore tax havens to save even more money. The devs likely get paid much less per head than the guys doing nothing but cutting their work into bits to make the publishers more money.

I have no sympathy. I have seen profits for these companies and they do not need to find more w...

Shill. You're on the don't read list too.

It's like you and other publications believe that we'll believe you if you repeat it enough.

We all know that AAA publishers take far too large a cut, while the devs do all the work. Fuck them, they can cut their stupidly large marketing budgets.

These guys' profits have been published, and show that we don't need microtransactions in every fucking game, single player, co...

They are bringing back MT progression for those who want it again, making it pay to win.

That's not doing the right thing. That's fucking over it's less wealthy customers.

2992d ago 2 agree1 disagreeView comment

My thoughts exactly. The marketing budgets are huge and unnecessary. Gaming is basically mainstream, and most gamers know what is being released through basic media outlets, never mind hiring A-List actors, paying off journalists for great reviews even if their game is last year's repetitive tripe and blowing a wad of cash on music video budget style advertisements.

Meanwhile, it's revealed that most AAA devs get treated like veal, locked in an office for days on en...

To stop them buying into a game that may punish them in the near future for trusting EA?

Now you're just being ridiculous.

The game is still, as far as EA have stated today, possibly going back to a pay to win service.

Their words, not mine. I'll stick by what I say. Go and play your game.
