first, just because a new system is released doesn't mean it's cutting edge. ms launched the 360 and said hdmi and hard drives aren't necessary. they are now adding additional systems on the market to include large hard drives and hdmi. and cutting edge means the newest of everything. but xbox 360 doesn't have a hi-def drive. it has a LAST GEN dvd9 drive. plus i would think something that is cutting edge would be made with superior quality in mind. with an over 30% failure rate for the 360, ...
if you look it up, the original xbox was out barely 4 years when the 360 came out. and ms abandoned it completely in favor of the new system. it didn't help either as their losses in the gaming industry have risen to a record 18 billion and counting.

having BR in ps3 will be the deciding factor. if ms had put HD-DVD in x360, then it might be a different story, but they didn't. when people look at the value of what they get in a ps3, it's a no-brainer what to buy. i don't say this because of a love for sony, it's just common sense- people want to get the most out of their money.
