the reason the elite didn't bolster numbers is the fact you can't find one. i have been trying to find one for several weeks and they are out everywhere and have been since may. finding one is worse than getting one when the 360 launched.
i know what spurred this from MS though, cable companies have been readying 100mb connections for houses here in the US for the past couple years and are starting to roll it out in small test cities. if you had 100mb connection the house DLC would be a normal fast way of life, no different than taking your 6mb internet connection now, downloading a 4mb song in a few seconds and putting it on your mp3 player. with a 100mb connection you could download your 2gig movie in a few minutes and then ...
I think they are right, maybe more in the 5-10yr range though. Someone up above brought apple into this, remember apple is banking on DLC over blu-ray and hd dvd also. that is the whole idea of apple tv (which sucks right now but maybe they will get it right in version 2 or 3). So it isn't just MS that believes it.
oh and 1 TB drives are not that expensive right now, $308 on pricewatch.com. so by next year they will be sub $200 and the 1.5TB and 2TB drives will be coming out so space ...
i am usually not a fan of apple products but that was pretty darn cool. if it takes and receives phone calls well that would be an awsome device however the price point is way high for the mass market. if it were more on par or slightly above other smart phones (the price) i would actually consider it. maybe in 6-12months after production stream lining happens they will be able to drop the price some. The interface is somewhat inovative but it doesn't have any features every other smart phone...
but if you think about it, they (MS) are trying to provide content for a wide range of tastes, well what about adult content. they can come up with some elaborate way of verfying age the way porn sites do and provide content for lonely male adults (probably 85% of their install base). now i can guarentee you adding that to the video market place will move some 360s.

i can tell you this i would plunk down a few hundred for one of those in wireless for RTS games. the level of speed and control that thing would give you in any strategy game would be awsome
annex rocks, but the lack of achievements made people stop playing it, this will definitly kick things back into gear, can't wait.
if i were bill gates i would send his family a free copy of halo 3 when it comes out. or even better find thompson's kids friends and give them all 360s and halo 3 because you know his kids would be over at their house playing it.
it isn't being compared to the greatest looking game, this is a beta vs rfom, not halo3 BETA vs gears of war, that would be comparing it to the greatest looking console game.
your right with the beta halo is not top dog in graphics, that goes to another 360 game, gears of war. GOW makes resistance look like mario kart 64.

what he doesn't quite understand is that people who follow gaming (hardcore/real gamers) are the ones on the internet, that is where the information is and that is where they express their opinion. yeah if he went up to anyone and asked if they wanted a ps3 for free of coarse they would say yes, but go up ask them if they want a ps3 for the price they are charging and you get a different answer which is showing in the sales figures.
