There are two arguments against online trophies:
1) They promote cheap tactics to get achievements
2) When a game's online community dies it's hard/impossible to plat/1000'd it.
How to circumvent:
1) Just don't make "Get three kills while camping" trophies. Killzone 2 was notorious for boosting and other lame strategies just to get trophs. Crysis 2 seems to have done it right, they're just 'natural...
Yeah, prevents trades--or at least forces trophy whores to rent it 6 months after trading it in.
I for one am glad there's finally a game with some decent online trophies. Most big name titles these days are either taking them out (CoD) or making them too easy (Killzone 3).
