A quality review by one of our reviewing team - and by all accounts (to my shame, I haven't played it yet, been getting into God of War instead) a GOTY contender :).
A good review :).
He's getting disagrees because PC wasn't a full gen ahead in 2007. PC isn't just the people that spend $2500K on their PC - PC is all the mid-range machines that actually form the bulk of the PC market. If you look at the Steam hardware survey, a good proportion of Steam customers have machines that cannot match the current gen of consoles, let alone what we'll see in the next 12 months.
As for PC now, while the _specs_ are clearly well ahead of the next-gen...
Life of Pixel is great - one of the best games on PSMobile - top work by the devs, best of luck to them for the future :).
That's a very odd position neoandrew - PC as a platform is a poor one for racing, given it's native controls (mouse/kb) do it far worse than a controller. Clearly, it's better with a wheel, but some of the best gaming racing wheels are made with the PS3 in mind. There's a reason for this ;). That's not to say there aren't exceptional simulators on PC as well, but GT5 _is_ a sim, and a very good one at that. I'm not saying GT is the best - I haven't played a...
@ DOM - it depends what kind of game you're looking for. If you watch actual motorsport, the vast majority of the time, drivers are actually on the driving line. The AI in GT5 does overtake each other (and you), and deviates from the driving line to do so (better than Forza, I might add - the number of times the AI in that game has tried to drive through me....).
However, the number of overtakes/lap is much closer to the actual number you'd see in actual motorspor...
@ All the PC people talking about the 7xxx radeon series on PC - remember that the rendering and pretty much everything on PC is held back by both far less optimisation and the impact of the OS. That, and we really don't know an awful lot about the power of the CPU and GPU in the kind of detail to answer this question. I'm not saying that BF4 could be 1080p and 60fps on PS4, Xbox 720 or whatever, but no-one here, not even the PC people, know whether it's possible or not.

Aye, me too - my PC just broke down, and I miss it and can't wait for it to get fixed, _but_ I'd miss my PS3 and Vita just as much. Hell, I'd even miss the 360, bless it's overpriced store and ridiculous paywall, but also it's wonderful Halo and Fable series :).
Coco, there's just no comparison if you're looking for a sim between GT5 and Forza 4. Forza 4 is a very enjoyable game, and arguably a better 'game' than GT5. However, it's a step below in physics and handling, and a generation behind in sim-style AI. While I was playing Forza on the weekend in a race, in third place, I watched first and second both fly off the final corner at Monza into the wall. It was 'only' the expert series, but as long as the AI behaves l...
There were definitely issues with GT5, but it's far and away the best sim-style racer on console. Unfortunately, Forza's handling model (close, but still clearly not at the same level) and AI (in particular - you'll see cars shoot off the track at corners, at the Expert level, it's laughable stuff) hold it back. GT could learn a thing or two from Forza's presentation, though. GT's crash physics aren't great, but Forza's could do with some work as well.
Ye gads, this review's just a wee bit generalised - a review of 'March of the Eagles' for non-strategy gamers, maybe ;). Suggesting that it's just Crusader Kings with a different map seems to have missed the point of both Crusader Kings and March of the Eagles!
@ T900 - if you think your $600 PC will stack up against a PS4. It's the mistake all PC-only gamers make when looking at specs, and its just as silly as claiming the PS4 will beat high-end PCs.
PC's have a huge barrier to reaching optimal performance through Windows (and yes, you could game on Linux, but then you'd be playing with less games than the PS4 will likely launch with :P). Then, on top of that, devs have to cope with numerous different hardware configur...
It's great to see these kind of features working their way into console games - onwards and upwards :).
@ Septic - aye, that's the main danger here - MS effectively replaced Ninty as the main competition in the core gaming arena (sorry Ninty fans, but when it comes to publishing third party games, last gen there were, for the most part, only two games in town in the console game), and MS were always in the game for loungeroom domination (and said as much early on, to their investors) rather than gaming.
Fortunately, they were competitive enough to stop Sony getting carried ...
Totally agree - I personally thought the PS4 reveal was exceptional (I've been gaming a long time, and in the context of console reveals, we saw more of almost everything than in any previous reveal to-date).
But.....we know almost nothing about MS' plans, let alone how they're feeling. Prior to Sony's reveal, most people had money on MS launching first, so they're probably some ways along. At least it was correctly titled as an opinion piece, but it'...
Aye, it's been a case of people's expectations (and some shocking advertising from Sega) getting everyone's hopes up, which has meant something that isn't that bad (although it isn't that good either) is getting torn to shreds. Us humans are an emotional lot ;).
These are the kind of games that continue to keep the PC relevant to me as a gaming device - deep, enjoyable and more replay value than you can poke a stick at - go Paradox :).
I've got both too, and the download speeds are nowhere near that different. You find that people that play more on one than the other tend to have more updates waiting for them on their 'less used' console, and a lot of mainly 360 but occasionally PS3 players see this as slower updates. I'm the other way around (mainly PS3, occasionally 360), and find the updates on 360 just as painful. There was also at least one instance where I just had to sit and wait for something to D...
Haha - you need to get out a bit more - as noted below, the Xbox updates aren't charged for (I'm silver, and I get the update as well - so it _is_ free), and the PS3 (I can't speak for the Wii U, and it wouldn't be a fair comparison anyway, given the product hasn't been around as long) is just as reliable, does a number of things better, and isn't weighed down with adverts. Oh, and I don't need to pay an extra charge not found on any comparable gaming device, ever...
Sarcasm or insanity here?
