@ No_Limit - depends what you like, I'm a big sucker for Gaijin Entertainment's work, so WAR THUNDER on PS4, as well as Killzone (another of my fave franchises) has me going with the PS4 early. Will be up for the XB1 when they get an interesting exclusive, my bet would be Halo 5, but that teaser by from Black Tusk also looked promising. Note - Forza 5 looks great, but it's not my kind of game. I can appreciate the Forza series does what it tries to do well, but what it does isn...

It's always a shame when objective concerns (of which there were many over the original vision for the XB1) are replaced with it being trendy to hate on something (the situation now). Hopefully now that Kinect is optional, we can get back to talking about the games and gaming-related services on both next-gen consoles. Don't get me wrong, I'm not defending Microsoft (hell, they brought this on themselves), but they have listened, deserve the credit for listening, and we should n...

Yes and no - if it's designed in such a way that they can cut costs over time, to get the price into a more amenable bracket for handheld gamers, then it may well get a second wind - there's plenty of gaming systems that haave started slow and picked up speed (see PSP, 3DS, PS3, off the top of my head).

That's the way. I wouldn't recommend getting both next-gen consoles at launch unless someone had more money than they knew what to do with, but rolling with the machine that had the games they wanted to play most, then grabbing the other machine down the track, is the way to go for the cost-conscious multi-console gamer :).

The 360 had some solid games, particularly if you also didn't have a PC to game on, or preferred gaming on console. If you did have a PC, it was still worth playing for the likes of Halo, Gears, Fable 2 and Shadow Complex, and Forza if that's your thing (not mine, I think it's bloody horrendous). In all, my personal fave 360 games were Halo and Gears. If arcade shooters aren't your thing, though, the 360 is pretty missable. If I had to choose between the two in retrospect,...

You young 'uns ;). You don't _need_ a mobile phone any more than you need a handheld gaming device. It's a luxury, and a very handy one, but it's perfectly possible to live effectively without one.

As for modern phones, they're very well equipped for phoning, but unless they've got twin analog sticks and buttons, they're not well equipped for gaming. To make an auto analogy, top-end mobile phones, from a gaming perspective, are like a new Ferrar...

Aye, thing is though that if they can't get the price up there, then they can't have large development budgets, which means mobile games will only ever be small, cheap shallow affairs, or ports of games whose development was paid for by gamers on PC and console.

The Vita is the best handheld gaming experience currently available, however relatively high up-front cost (most smartphones cost twice as much or more, but most consumers happily pay this in their monthly plans oblivious to the true cost) handheld gaming devices are relatively niche. Game library for a handheld that's 18 months old is great, gets far more negative press than it deserves.

This is a fair statement for a bunch of reasons - most important is how he identifies that shinier graphics = higher cost. An 'expensive' game on mobile costs the same as a five-year old game on a 75% off Steam sale - except for a very small number of games that go viral, most games don't pull in a heap of revenue and so can't cost a lot to make - chasing console graphics in a market where the vast majority of individual games make very limited amounts of revenue (because mob...

Game looks good, but they clearly spent all their budget on tech/engine development and art and then pulled some random off the streets for the writing, that dialogue is bloody atrocious. Really cringeworthy stuff. And don't start me on the game be about as realistically Roman as Call of Duty is realistically military.

Looks like fun of course, you don't need good writing to make a good game, but we haven't seen Rome done well in a game like this yet (the Total ...

Nice one, great to have PAX make its way down under, and commit to coming back again :).

Too right, half the games on that list, including the 'crafts', owe most of their gameplay mechanics to the venerable Dune 2. It's a bit of an ommission, actually, given the list is so nostalgia-based.

Aye, tbh list was a bit nostalgia-heavy (which is legitimate, no rules against that) but the later total wars were better put together.

Aye - it could have gone two ways, with the introduction of topless blokes to go with the booth babes, but this way everyone loses :(.

Nice one :).

Because the XB1 will magically be immune to network latency? Lag is an issue for _all_ cloud services, be they Gaikai, Azure or any other.

Not a bad article, although the list contains two turn-based strategy games, which are _not_ RTS titles.

4591d ago 1 agree0 disagreeView comment

Would have been better to include the game title in the name of the entry.

The author for this article is just a tad sensationalist. Taking two games from one developer's catalogue, and then implying that "video games hate the left", particularly when the article itself goes on to note that Rockstar also (and just as aggressively) parodies the right (and centrists, and environmentalists, and musicians). Indeed, Rockstar are well known for parody in their games, and (as noted) there is no clear political bias in which side they parody.

Aye, Steam actually goes down a bit (far more frequently than the PSN or XBL), it gets off surprisingly lightly because of it. Doesn't go down for long, but it doesn't mind hiccupping quite a bit. No biggy (for me at least, I tend to play single-player strategy games on PC), but will be good if it were a dash more reliable.
