A golden age in gaming!

Totally agree - I personally prefer gaming on Playstation and PC, and with War Thunder out on PS4 at launch (in Australia) the PS4 is easily my preferred choice of next-gen console, but I very much hope all the gamers who get into the XB1 have an awesome time as well, as do the Wii U peeps and the PS3/360 peeps who won't upgrade for a year or two, and even those PC elitist types :).

Microsoft does have a solid launch line-up, but for my personal tastes, the PS4 has better games at launch (and post-launch). Crimson Dragon and Zoo Tycoon are the only two XB1 games that move my radar, with Titanfall and Halo 5 down the track. That's nothing up against War Thunder, Planetside 2, The Order, inFamous:SS, Driveclub and Killzone.

The beauty is, everyone has choice - a much greater chance of all gamers getting what they'll enjoy :).

Amen to that - like what you like but respect what others like as well :).

Indeed he is - from the comments section these days, it seems that PC gaming is for parochial, insecure folk who struggle to understand people that have different preferences ;). Nerds tend to be a little more broad-minded than your average modern-day PC-only gamer.

You say more mature communities, but in the opposing corner, I give you the Dota 2 community ;).

I've actually found console and PC communities to be much of a muchness. You get the same kinds of idiots playing Counter Strike on PC as you do playing Call of Duty on console, and there are plenty of immature gits on SC2 and Dota 2/LoL. MMO and grand strategy crowds tend to be a little better though - I don't think you can roll in those games for any period of time wit...

I'm not a fan of these either/or debates (got both, gamed on both for decades), but given how many "Why bother with console when there's PC" articles in the last few months, it's only appropriate there's a few of these as well. Personally prefer console despite having a beefier PC (can't play Civ V and EU IV on console, so I'll never let that PC go), PC gamers who think there's no benefit to console gaming are parochial and narrow-minded, not superior ;)...

I'd say it'd depend on the speed/capacity of the cores and the structure/nature of the code as to whether this was the case (particularly in the context of GPU bottlenecks, a la the article), not to mention the engine in question.

Biggest thing about this vid is how good it looks on PS3! PS4 differences aren't huge, but for a cross-gen game I'd expect that's not going to be an isolated occurrence with cross-gen games.

I've played with voice commands in SOCOM (PS2) and Endwar (PS3) and while accurate, they were slower and clunkier than with a controller. They may be great for a few niche games, but I'm yet to play or see anything with voice commands that actually benefited gameplay (you can get deeper immersion if you like talking at your game with 'em, but it's generally not as good a gameplay option). Having them mandatory, though, would be pretty wacky stuff.

Voice commands aren't mandated on any console platform, as far a I'm aware, so this is hardly a case for or against Sony or anyone else ;).

Well said - as long as both platforms have a healthy enough install base that will support development, being #1 or #2 isn't important, and both look like they'll start plenty healthy, which is good for everyone :).

Forza's kinda half-way in-between - you get a _lot_ more car-to-car contact then in a racing sim, and Forza 4's damage at least (can't comment on 5, haven't played it yet) was very light on, nothing like the old TOCA series, and there was a generous amount of rubber-banding so the races never felt dull. With all the assists on, Forza's handling is _very_ forgiving, and the structure of the game is really well put together and enjoyable, and the online is fleshed out and f...

@ Bigpappy - the article didn't mention anything about the nature of the AI in Forza or Driveclub (or any other games while we're at it), and I was in no way suggesting the X1 or, indeed, Forza 5, weren't top-notch. I was just noting that Forza has a history of suggesting it's a sim when its AI is anything but. It's still a great game ;). I definitely didn't disagree with anything in the article, I think it's well put together, and my first comment under the art...

@ Graph - read a hands-on at "Good Game Bro" (our cousins, lol) and by all accounts it sounds like the AI wouldn't make it around one lap of Mount Panorama without getting red carded.

Forza is the sim for people that don't actually want a sim, but don't want to feel they're driving an arcade racer ;).

The X1 will be the hottest spot for racers, but Forza's no sim ;). At this stage, neither next-gen machine has a sim racer on the horizon.

@ Emilio Estevez - the tags are there when you're in the system, they just don't seem to be showing up in the story. Not sure what's going on, but the tags have deffo been added.

It's because it's not a 'new' trailer - it's a trailer for the closed PC beta, and has got to be months and months old. This trailer was released before Gaijin started developing War Thunder for PS4 ;).

Agreed, that's a trailer to show off the closed beta on PC, from a whiles ago now. Pumped for the game though, very much looking forward to it :).

Cross platform has been announced and confirmed, apparently at launch (expect a few niggles early on I'd wager ;)). You're spot on in terms of tank sims - we've had a few arcade attempts, but nothing of any merit. Gaijin are great for detail, and the roster of Soviet and German tanks was right tasty :D.

Very, very much looking forward to this on PS4 (would also be awesome on PC, I just prefer console for this kind of thing), looks excellent. As fOrlOnhOpe57 says, will be interesting to see how it's balanced, but as long as both sides have fighter cover, it won't be terribly easy to just line the tanks up and mow them down.
