The bulk of that was statutory damages. Those are pre-established values. Title 17, Section 504 of the U.S. Code sets the value at $200 per work in cases where the defendants could show that they were not aware that they were infringing on a copyright. If the court had found that she was aware (and let's face it, she was) then they could have awarded up to $150,000 per work.
Edit: If the court had found that she knew she was committing the offense, they could have awarded...
All you have to do before any important action is press a button huh? Well you just described pretty much every video game ever made.
It is a game. I don't care who I am playing. I don't care who I am killing. At the end of the day pixels do not have a nationality.
Omega4 lives in Opposite Land. I thought that was common knowledge.
Yeah ban the arcades. The kids will be much better off doing drugs and mugging old ladies instead of wasting their time at an arcade.
You know what is really a waste of time for impressionable youths? Jail.
People who shoplift were not going to buy the items anyway. People who drink and drive were not going to take a cab anyway. People who cheat on a test were not going to study anyway.

That is what you sound like Theonik.
AndrewRyan apparently does not know that the PS3 is the lead console for this game.
What would you say EBC, if JackPalmeri happened to own stock in Microsoft? It is certainly within the realm of possibility.
My uncle's girlfriend once asked me if it was safe to operate a hairdryer with wet hair. No lie.
I am going to go with the "not paying" option.
You tried your Wiimote in the garden? Why? What is the point of having a functional controller with no TV to look at?
The glow of the TV creates ambient light. You were not expecting to use the Move with the TV off were you?
No. Also, if Medal of Honor decided to go down that path, I would not buy it either.
I played through that level. I made it a competition between myself and the AI. There was no way I was going to let AI get more kills than me. That would be shameful. I just imagined that the virtual civilians I was slaughtering all did something terrible, like tax evasion, or driving with a suspended license.
Firefighters are not fictional. They are real. Real heroes are better than fictional heroes any day. Also, I have been through firefighter training. Firefighters are certainly skillful, but whether or not they could be considered "exceptionally skillful" is up for debate.
Main Entry: su·per·hero
Pronunciation: \-ˌhir-(ˌ)ō, -ˌhē-(ˌ)rō\
Function: noun
Date: 1917
: a fictional hero having extraordinary or superhuman powers; also : an exceptionally skillful or successful person
Batman is an exceptionally skillful hero, therefore he is a superhero.
I know that Peter Parker is a genius. That just means that intellectually, he and Bruce Wayne are on an even playing field. The advantage that Batman has though is that he plans for everything.
Edit: I will concede though that Spider-Man would win in a one on one fight, if Batman did not have time to prepare. Like maniacmayhem stated below.
Batman's greatest strength is his ability to plan. He is a tactician. Spider-Man might have the speed and strength, but that hasn't helped Superman yet. Batman has defeated Superman on several occasions, when it became necessary. I think it stands to reason that he could defeat Spider-Man as well.
I don't bring my sense of morality with me when I start playing a game. It is a game. I don't care about the virtual civilians in the virtual airport. I don't care about the virtual bystanders on the virtual sidewalk in virtual New York. Hell I would sell my virtual mother to virtual slave traders if they gave me a good enough deal. It is also just as likely that I would kill the virtual slave traders and take over their virtual business.
For everyone who is interested, Alyson Reeves is a woman. I only mention this because several of you have used male pronouns to refer to the defendant.
