He never said the west was a BAD influence. Just that games such as oblivion and Fall Out 3 have changed the standard a bit.

Maybe not for an avid jrpg fan. But definitely with the average consumers.

Basically, when people think of the ideal rpg these days, it's closer to skyrim then Final Fantasy.

I actually haven't seen much hate aimed specifically at Noel. I mean you're obviously gonna get those guys who hate every male that doesn't have a buzzcut. But generally most people don't seem to mind him too much.

Infact the main thing people seem to hate about this game is,... it's prequel. (lol)

You guys could be right about it not having a solid ending, but, can we all just forget about that whole domain thing(for right now anyways)?

As it doesn't necessarily mean anything. People register domains for all kinds of reasons. Most of them being "just in case" type reasons.

Do people not remember the whole "Sony-Microsoft/Microsoft -Sony" domain fiasco? And how it turned out to be nothing. This could be one of those cases.

@Ao1JMM

When exactly did he say that he bought a game only based on exclusivity? Defensive Much?

And if you truly believe all that "Sony Defense Force" BS, then you're taking all this way too seriously.

I mean an Xbox fanboy tryed to troll, and got reverse trolled instead. That's hardly a reason to start crying about the big bad SDF.

And be honest with yourself for a second. Dcortz makes a good point. How ar...

I know right, There no way they didn't do that on purpose.

Exactly, that's my only beef with the game. The 24/7 melodrama. The story worked much better when they when they would insert the drama subtly (like in Gran Pulse when you realize that all the statues on the ground/floating around were people that failed their "focus").

And yea the theme park was easily one of the best parts. Hopefully something like that will return in this game.

I agree, Snow and Serah's relationship always bothered me because of that. (Here's hoping she leaves him for the Noel guy, as he at least looks closer to her age.)

As far as getting excited goes, I'm torn. Because some of the new stuff really does look cool. But I definitely get what you mean about some aspects feeling like more of the same. (For me it's really the dialogue and such, as it doesn't seem to have changed at all.)

5308d ago 1 agree1 disagreeView comment

You obviously didn't finish the game. Because they do eventually allow you to change roles. It's only in the first half that characters are assigned to certain roles. (Granted that segment did go on way too long.)

I don't think haters are necessarily trying too hard. But, I do believe that, no matter what SE add or improve, people will still find something to moan about.

Because let's face it, gamers like to complain.

And I'm not even saying that XIII was flawless. Or that XIII-2 will be. But look at how XIII-2's improvements get swept under the rug, just so people can complain some more.

Gamers get off on being cynical, it's just...

Exactly! I'm mean, if people really dislike the original that much, then surely any change is good right???

Besides, they're obviously trying to cater to what gamers expect from a modern day RPG. The main critism of XIII was it's linearity. So they're making it more open. Isn't that what gamers wanted all along?

5312d ago 2 agree1 disagreeView comment

The beginning of the article alludes to an interesting theory. Could XIII-2 (and possibly XIII-3) have been born out of people constant b!tching about the original? If so, LOL! You've gotta love the irony.

@Outside and White_Lightning

Seriously???

So you wish for hundreds of people's hard work to be fail just because YOU don't like the battle system?

How old are you guys again?

Besides, how will a flagship game flopping help SE at all? If anything it only hurt there future investments. (and yes that includes Versus XIII)

I agree with what you're saying here. I definitely noticed that society is on a sort of downward slope when it comes to what's acceptable.

In fact, this is the exact thing I was talking about. People just choose to view everything as a joke and forget about it, because that's easier than caring. And then those same people wonder why our culture is in such bad shape.

@KwietStorm

I really don't see where you're going with that. Because it will always be easier to do nothing, no matter what the situation. Especially in cases, when people like the author try to convince you that doing the right thing is wrong or pointless.

Basically, think about it academically. It takes no effort what so ever to get a Zero on an assignment. That same thing applies to life.

It's not hard to do nothing, because y...

Fair Enough, But you said it yourself. It's EASIER just to tolerate it. Too many times we as society just settle and choose the easy way out. In my opinion, it's the cause of all (or at least most) of our problems. (including our poor financial state and such.)

I definitely get that it's difficult to change anything. But a big part of the reason it's so difficult is because no one is willing to try anymore.

So even if the outrage is pointless ...

So... basically people should do nothing because sexism is common-place in the industry? Don't get me wrong, the author makes a few good points I guess. But it's exactly this kind of "do nothing" attitude that keeps sexism firmly in place in this industry.

@complainers

Who f@ckin cares how bad the first game was? You do realize that this is a different game right? It's as if you guys have ran out of things to b!tch about, so now you keep spouting "but, but, but... the first game sucked."

Going by your logic, devil may cry 3 should have sucked. As well as the new Mortal Kombat, the dark knight, and so on.

My point is that you shouldn't assume a sequel is going to suck before it...

Normally I might agree with you, but weren't they supposed to start focusing on Versus once XIII was released? Who's to say another game won't come out of left field and delay Versus even further?

and don't get me wrong, I'm mildly excited for XIII-2, but couldn't that have waited? To me it makes more since to release that after Versus. That way, people have one less reason to hate XIII-2. And who knows, Versus might of even restored a little bit of pe...

Wouldn't that be kind of a waste? I mean, do you really want square to come out and say "oh hey, you've spent 5-6 years of your life waiting for something that will never even hit store shelves"? Especially since what they have shown at least LOOKS like it's worth the wait.

They've made us wait this long, so the very LEAST they could do is actually release the game. They owe their fans that much.

@siesser

You really kind of missed the point he was making at the end of his comment. He's saying that if it really were that great, it wouldn't have gotten canceled. Which is a good point.

I mean, regardless of what game replaced it, the fact that it could get pushed aside so easily means it probably was "that" great to begin with.(the fact that the game got replaced by something like Eyepet only proves that point.)
