The author isn't saying that all japanese games suck. No one is, except for that Phil Fish guy but no one really cares what he thinks.

This Article isn't about any of that. What the article is saying is that it is Japan's refusal to evolve that's leading to their own decline.

I'm glad you mentioned Nintendo, because they just prove my point. Nintendo is a company that isn't afraid to grow. (Which is why they are so successful.)

I was just talking about this yesterday.

I mean, I literally hit on these exact same points/subjects.(To the point where it's kind of eerie to read the very next day.)

I'd add something more constructive but I'm a bit talked out on this subject.

So I'll just sit this one out.(well, maybe.)

Wow. I didn't think it would come to this. So fast anyways.(I figured it would take at least a couple more flops before FF started pulling less than 500K first month.)

But this isn't all bad, hopefully SE sees this as a wake up call. Fans aren't afraid to let your (flag)ship sink. Don't ignore them.

And could pick up the pace with Versus please? Or at least stop with all of the secretiveness.

Edit: And for what it's worth...

"Versus 13 will likely suffer the fate of being ignored because of the state of the brand"

I've thought about this, though I'm hoping it isn't the case.

On the plus side, it seems like most fans have already separated the game from the rest of the XIII's. So maybe there's hope for the game.

I'd hate to see 6+ years of hard work (and anticipation) go down the drain. Just because it was linked to an unpopular g...

I don't think he's saying that they actually sold the same console twice.

But that some of the 360's sales come from owners who bought a new 360 when there old one red-ringed.(as opposed to just getting it fixed.)

I won't say that's the only reason they are ahead, but I'm sure it makes a difference.

100% agree.

Exactly. He(Inafune) is only trying to help them.

He's not saying this stuff to be a bully or something.

He just wants the Japanese industry to come out of stagnation.

Like you said, time for a step forward.

5122d ago 1 agree0 disagreeView comment

Hey now, this why other countries dislike The U.S., our obsessive need to own and dominate everything.

It doesn't have to be "either or". The industry was best when both sides were thriving (ie. the majority of the ps2/xbox/gamecube days.)

@tantobanto

uhh... Thatgamecompany (the company that created Flow, Flower, and Journey) are an American company.

And say what you want about Platnium Games, but atleast their games still get people's attention. Which puts them leagues ahead of most japanese companies today.

Well, I'm not much of a pokemon guy, but I did play around it the ruby/sapphire/emerald era.

And if I remember correctly, they actually did have slighty different stories. But the stories kind of coexisted. (With the exception of Emerald, which kind of combined the other 2 stories.)

I also think that the pokemon on the box-art is exclusive to that respective game. But I'm not sure about this.

The author mentions that there are some exceptions to the rule.

Like, If a developer makes big changes to the game. (Call of Duty 4, Halo Reach, etc.)

Or, If a game is different with each sequel.
(Final Fantasy, and to a degree,The Legend of Zelda series.)

I think the author pretty good job of considering things like this, while still driving their overall point home.

Nobody is saying that Gamers ALWAYS hated Sony.

But if you think that gamers and "journalists" enjoy scrutinizing Sony way more than others these days, you're a bit naive.

As far as the PS1 goes, you can attribute it's success to one of the age-old rule of life: Everybody loves an underdog.

Yikes. Judging by peoples reactions, SE can't seem to please fans at all these days. (atleast when it comes to FF XIII and such.)

At this point I'd say release XIII-2(and whatever DLC that goes with it) and then just be done with it. Scrap any plans for a XIII-3 and move on to the projects that have a better chance at succeeding.

For the record, I'm not one of those fans with an endless (and sometimes irrational) hate for XIII and it's sequel...

I gotta agree with keybladeMaster on this one.

If Nomura's team can deliver on even half of the things they're attempting with Versus, then it'll be head and shoulders above XIII.

(and this is coming from someone who didn't even hate XIII nearly as much as most.)

5166d ago 3 agree0 disagreeView comment

Umm...

That's not why it still got a decent score. It got a decent score because the story was the ONLY weak part of the game (besides the soundtrack to some degree) in their opinion. In fact, they feel every other aspect has improved.

An 8 seems perfectly fair here. Or was it supposed to get an automatic 5 just because it's the sequel to FFXIII?

5179d ago 0 agree1 disagreeView comment

Most likely.

As far as the article goes, I say good call on not letting them do MGS5 by themselves.(or something along those lines.) Considering Rising was nearly scrapped.

@Skip_Bayless

So you're saying if a person submerges themselves in water they will automatically drown? Every single time? You're saying that it's "impossible" for there to be a different outcome?

As for you're questions...

"Has Square-Enix made a game in the high 9s?"

If you're specifically referring to Square-"Enix", then Final Fantasy XII says hi.

If you me...

lol!

okay I have to admit, that was pretty funny.

5208d ago 3 agree3 disagreeView comment

That's a terrible logic. You hate the first game so this one's condemned automatically?

That like me saying that because GTA4 sucks, GTA5 must be terrible as well. Or like me saying that because I didn't like Oblivion, I would totally hate Skyrim. Or like saying because the last Indiana Jones sucked, all the rest of them must suck too.(I could go on for hours.)

If you hate the game fine, but it shouldn't simply because you didn't like the ...

I really wish more people would be as mature about it.

There's nothing wrong with disliking the first game.(so long as you've given it a fair chance.)

But people need to stop b!tching and whining about a sequel that they haven't (and most likely will not) play.
