Totally agree.
The problem with shooter franchises these days is that they try to copy CoD.
Luckily there are rare examples where you don't see CoD elements: franchises like Battlefield, Bioshock, Deus Ex, etc.
But these are rare.
I wish developers started copying elements from Battlefield, if they really want to copy!
Things like a class based shooter you only see in Battlefield. More devs should take note.
If you look at the BF3 stats and compare them to MW3's, there are always around double the amount of people playing BF3 at any time of the day :)
You can check BF3's stats at bf3stats.com at the left. It's a real time tracker.

This makes me smile.
I am a PC gamer but because I don't have much free time at the moment, I have yet to buy Skyrim!
But in the meantime I have already made a nice list of mods I've come across (being featured on game news sites), and plan to install them all right from the start!
Next month, I will finally have a lot of free time so I will buy it! On top of that, there is the Steam Summer Sale so it will probably be 25% or 50% off. ...
I am proud to say I abandoned this sinking, non-innovative ship as one of the first.
Stopped after MW2 and never bought BO or MW3. Since MW2, I knew it was going downhill.
BF Bad Company 2 really opened my eyes and offers things you don't see in other shooter franchises.
(I did play BF2 back in the days, but not that much.)
How can you say that?
Are you a paid advertiser?
Fucking console gamers disagreeing with a FACT.
This is hilarious.
8 x 50 euro = 400 euro so far.
And then Xbox gamers say the PS3 is a LOT MORE EXPENSIVE.
Hahahahaaa, you guys are funny!
Somewhat same situation here.
I have been a PC gamer all my life but started with Steam only last year.
It's indeed insane how big the discounts are, and last year was also my first Steam Summer Sale. :)
MY BODY IS READY! MY WALLET TOO.
What I will buy as soon as they are in discount:
Skyrim
Fallout Las Vegas
Mass Effect 1 and 2
Alan Wake
Doom 3
LA Noire
Problem is: still have quite some games to complete first before I can start with these new bought games :P
The multiplayer was a piece of crap CoD copy-cat.
But the singleplayer is fine and is a lot longer than most shooter franchises' singleplayer.
- Sell PS3
- Sell 360
- BUY PC
Win :D
Yes, only Bioshock, Deus Ex Human Revolution, and Mass Effect series (not played yet but heard good things) seem to have a decent story.
Other shooter franchises (there are a lot) don't bother about emotional story telling, and it's just about action and killing.
That gets repetitive (although still fun overall) if you have been a long time gamer.
You fail.
It's about the awesome story telling. Nowadays most shooters have shitty singleplayer.
"Increased the effectiveness of the Aim Assist at close range. Testing in Close Quarters proved our current assist to be inadequate in tight quarters. This is a global change, and will improve the effectiveness of Aim Assist for all modes and maps. Aim Assist over distance is still significantly less effective. This is console only, as Aim Assist is not present on PC. If you prefer, you can also turn it off on console."
This made me lol, thinking about console gamer...
And that's the problem!
If you went in guns blazing, you shouldn't be able to survive.
That's the whole point of Hitman games. The protagonist is vulnerable and needs to kill his targets in sneaky ways.
HORSES CONFIRMED.
Aww, not this kind of article again :P
Every year some of these articles pop up lol.
But again: Steam, my friends.
Steam, it's the holy grail. It's awesome. It's cheap.
Use it, and you will choose PC gaming over consoles any day.
It will change eventually. By going digital, developers don't have to pay money to the middleman (stores and publishers).
Steam is insanely popular because of that.
And just like Free 2 Play titles is a trend that is coming over from PC to consoles, digital distribution will be one of the next trends coming to consoles.
Ah yes, the days of COD2 and COD4. I miss those.
The maps also were a lot better in my opinion.
Anyway, I didn't buy BO and MW3. MW2 was a disaster and I knew the franchise would go downhill.
I transitioned to Battlefield when BFBC2 arrived.
