Hey, it's Metal Gear Solid. MGS fans understand that the game has little to do with the time it takes to complete the mission, as much as, how long will it take to get an 'S' rank in all the missions. In that regard, it's well worth it for the time / fun factor in trying.

Definately. There have been numerous games I have refused to buy/play over the years on principle.
I did not buy Tomb Raider Definitive Edition on principle. If Square Enix had added extra single player content, I would have bough it. But asking me to fork out money for the exact same game only because it looks a bit better? No. Hell no!
Similarly I didn't buy Thief on principle either (not picking on Square Enix), but Thief for PS4 was not a 'next-ge...

I pre-ordered mine from Gamestop, so it's only costing me £19.97. At that price it's worth it for me.
Don't forget Star Citizen. If that games gets announced for morpheus it'll be a Day 1 for me :)

1) Metal Gear Solid
2) Metal Gear Solid Snake Eater (Subsistence)
3) Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker
4) Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots
5) Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty
Man, good to see them upping audio quality as well. Thank goodness for surround sound speakers. I got the pulse elite headset, here's hoping they have custom sound effects for that, as well as the gold wireless headset.

But, it does not at all mean therefore that "plot is highly overrated", as Microsoft claims.

Dude, Microsoft conducted the research the results are biased. Their sample group demographic is generally dude-bro types who only play COD and Madden.
What would you expect the results of such 'research' to show? Ofcourse the COD crowd don't care about plot. They might care about sgt. Price and his 'tash', but who cares about the plot of multiplayer shooters anyways. 90% of those gamers have never even booted up the single player campaign.
For me there were two games that were instrumental in developing my gaming tastes and preferences. Metal Gear Solid and Vagrant Story. Two absolutely fantastic games, which were completely plot driven and were such immersive gaming experiences.
But wait for it, these games where on the Playstation 1. How much more should blockbuster AAA games be plot driven immersive experiences now. After all shouldn't devs be pushing the medium forward.

I think the use of the word 'fun' in this context is abit of a misnomer. For example, 'enjoyment' is not necessarily the same as 'fun', but it does elicit the same feelings of exhilaration, satisfaction and delight.
You may say a game does not have to be fun, but it still however has to be enjoyable; regardless of what mature themes are being dealt with. Once a game stops being enjoyable, it stops being a worthwhile experience.
I would also like to know why they funded the "extensive Research". Anyone who has a basic understanding of how market research is conducted knows that, the premise is nearly always tailored to arrive at a specific outcome.
So if you want the data to show specific results, you ask certain specific questions. More importantly are the questions you don't ask - because you know they would skew your results.

Exactly. Games like Mass Effect have great gameplay, but tying it all together is an excellent plot. The huge furore over the Mass Effect 3 ending proves beyond a doubt that gamers care... I mean, gamers damn well care, about plot!
I absolutely loved MGS3. I remember absolutely freaking out when MGS3:Subsistence was announced. I just could not get the game quick enough. It was the first time I ever connected my PS2 to the internet. MGO was also the first time I even joined a clan, and it became the absolute best multiplayer experience I ever had. Good times man... good times :)
After playing OutLast (please let that game come to VR), I am more interested in this game. Looks like it could be an Aliens fan's OutLast.
