The SNES through PS2 era didn't have a wider variety of games, not at all. EDMIX has already said it better below. A few game genres that exist now didn't even exist in that era.
Personally I'm really impressed with the variety of games that have been released this gen across the board. I know that some hanker back to the PS2 era as the golden age for gaming. But today we have the widest breadth and variety of games across mobiles, tablets, consoles and PC; and gaming stories are being told across all platforms (Pokemon Go! anyone?!?). Gaming has never been more accessible to the international mass market than it is today, I think our golden age is already here. ...
Yeah well, after Starhawk flopped I doubt they'll invest in Warhawk. Bring back SOCOM instead.
Wow! That chart really shows that Sony have taken dominance in North America. I thought their main territory was Europe, but that chart shows the opposite. Microsoft really did fall asleep at the wheel.
Probably. I just hope the game has much more substance than the first one.
Awesome article. Well written, and too right about FFXII. *Applause*
How about we don't start pushing the hype train until the game actually delivers on it's promises?
Do people really have such short memories? smh.
Yeah, that sucks. That's why I usually buy physical copies. I only get digital copies of store only indie games.
I still have my PS2 copy of FFXII, along with the Special Edition Prima Strategy Guide.
Still getting the Remaster though.. obviously :)P
I'm still really enjoying For Honor actually. It's a very different pace and style of game, and kudos to Ubisoft for trying something different.
I don't understand what you mean?!
For example, I think the gamers who bought the Wii U did care when support was dropped because of a lack of software. The lack of software was caused by the lack of sales and therefore a lack of investment by developers and publishers. The same thing can be said for the PS Vita, lack of sales means reduced level of investment from developers and publishers - and this didn't really have anything to do with their hardware specificati...
It's amazing how over 10 years ago when this game first came out, people were criticising it for being different. Now it only proves that it was genuinely ahead of it's time. People were looking to FFX as a new high water mark (especially graphically), but I always though FFXII was much better. But then again Vagrant Story was my favourite Squenix game, and so FFXII set in Ivalice was an instant hit for me.
Glad to see the remaster received so well 10 years after i...
I've still got my Prima Collectors Edition Guide of the PS2 version of FFXII.
Vagrant Story FTW.
All the best for the future. I've played every single Killzone game, and loved every single one of them, and Horizon Zero Dawn was absolutely amazing.
Thank you for all your hard work, it is much appreciated.
FFXII is awesome. I don't get why it received all the hate for the real time battle system, it was way ahead of it's time.
Great game, a bit of a slow burner at the start, but once you decide who you want to be (e.g. bounty hunter, trader, explorer, or political party member) - the galaxy becomes your oyster.
When will I be too old to listen to my favourite tunes? NEVER!!!
When Will I be too old to watch my favourite movies? NEVER!!!
When will I be too old to play my favourite games? NEVER!!!
Well... if I live to 80 maybe then I'll be too old... but until then.... GAME ON!
How is this game still No.1 in the charts? Wow, R* magic!!!
I completely agree with you, and I'm also concerned that analysts' over emphasis on the casual market
will cause publishers and investors to increasingly move investment into the casual market. Arguably, the casual market is more profitable (smaller investment & wider profit margin) for the investors, but I think it's actually the AAA market that really sustains the industry in the long run. I'd hate to see less investment in the AA console space - even if it is...
