Low-level API's produce better results but are much harder to program for and require a certain level of technical understanding that not all studio devs possess, we are avoiding them.

I agree both with PridedLlama and the author. I have no problem at all with violent videogames. I have no problem going on a killing spree on GTA, killing prostitutes or cops and re-inventing myself as an ad-hock serial killer.
But this game feels different, its too dark for me to enjoy (maybe too real).
Some may say that I'm being a hypocrite, that a game is just a game, but I don't think so.

Initially that seems worrying, but I suppose it hasn't stopped plenty of PC games being produced in the past. Still, its quite a bold move to admit that you don't have the required expertise.

I'd say its more like they try to spend as little as possible on hardware because they know that the Nintendo faithful will buy anything they make no matter how underpowered, which prevents them from letting graphics from pushing anything into 2nd place.
