It's cyclical in most creative industries, the film industry goes through a big financial collapse every 30-50 years. The big studio's overspend and don't make enough then the whole thing shrinks back and gets filled by indie film makers. Then it starts growing again. Kind of a three steps forward two steps back kind of dance.
It's very likely that the games industry will work on a similar cycle. Possible shorter as the first collapse was in the eighties and i...
Apparently it's been confirmed that the earth is covered by water. In other obvious news call of duty continues to release games annually. We are all very surprised.
Hardcore gamers have been heard wondering if "it will look better" than the last game.
What are your most wanted additional features?
That could go to better use buying a videocard thats 100 dollars more.
My hero.
The only reason I use windows is for games, if it werent for that I'd be running some kind of linux. Mint maybe, I've always liked linux mint.
After using linux for years and coming back to windows there are so many things just wrong with it.
your not looking at it in a business and investment sense. Investment wise yearly releases are like high risk stocks. Eventually every high risk stock takes a dive, or converts to low risk. Call of duty selling every years is totally great for the industry, but if it stopped selling record amounts of games it would single handedly ruin activision. Which would go a long way in setting the profit records, and industry size back a bit.
Do you think otherwise? Aside from blizz...
Personally they don't need to "die" and it has nothing to do with whether I like it or not.
From my perspective annual releases stress the industry. It's a short term business model, in the long run it'll like cause some issues. Whether that's a full on game industry collapse, or just a couple large companies taking a big dip in sales.
It does not have built in voice recognition. It has built in noise cancelling microphones (plural) so that it can record and detect your voice with good quality.
The Voice recognition is all software based, and all done by the xbox cpu.
How it works is by having a library of voice que references that it compares your voice to. This can be done with any microphone that uses the proper software back end. What the kinect does is simply allow better voice pickup...
I think graphics only matter for initial sales close to release. It's strictly a gimmick, if you make a game pretty enough that nobody will notice the story till later, it will sell. Even the reviewers get blinded by it, usually the mention the story but all the categories they use to judge a game are relative, one aspect can be soooooo good that it will make up/ make you ignore the others.
While super excellent gameplay can afford to take a slower route, if it's exe...
Purely from a psychological perspective; When people think they have made a unanimously correct decision they want to help other people from making the perceived wrong decision.
From a business/consumer perspective some companies are bad companies for whatever reasons. Maybe they use anticompetitive practices, or treat workers poorly, or release products that have more spent on marketing than research and or development, or even because they have poor customer service.
I don't know why people disagree with these things. Maybe they think it's tee expensive?
you can get a used low end gaming rig for 2-300, and can build a pretty decent one from scratch with 3-4. Thats not much more than a console. Plus you can get a much wider variety of use from the pc.
If you have an hdtv it plugs in the same way via hdmi, You can get a pc version xbox360 controller with a dongle so you can play many games with the controller if you...
He also didn't research his article very well. In the hdd section he said that sony hadn't made changeable hdd in the ps3 originally.
Plus the whole upgradable parts in the console thing is a bad idea. It's been tried, the great thing about consoles is that they come out in well defined generations.
Very true. Additionally sony fairly planned for this, as is obvious if you account for the discount psp they introduced before the vita released.
Sony seems start their consoles with the plan of, having the old ones sell very well when the new ones come out.
Obviously they would like to have it sell loads the whole time but they prepare for their consoles to have a hard time when they first come out. They know they have an expensive product.
Really I would rather not. I would like new games, or games that are so good they don't need to come out that often.
yeah but they only need to be jail broken because apple has very strict restrictions on what people can do that often have little to do with piracy or patent infringement and more to do with some corporate moral structure they enforce to keep the app store pure.
Look at android they, google, support hacking and customizing their system.
Apple does well because they spend more on marketing their products than any directly competing company. If it weren't f...
Sony should just release a free restricted dev tool kit and allow people to produce small free games and apps that have to be submitted to sony who will then host them on the store, for whatever price or lack there of that the developer chose. That would serve the actual homebrew users, then sony could go straight nazi on the pirates and nobody would care.
sounds like a good mod. More importantly though there was a link at the top of the page saying black mesa source is coming out in a few week. Radtastic.
Ahh well pc, unless you want the nintendo or playstation exclusive games. Other than that pc is king, most console games are on it and can be played with a low end system.
with games the technology is analogous to camera work, and an integral part of game design. In this case it's not even a specific technology it's just a way of having 3d interactive multiplayer world spaces. They patented that as a concept, and all the technology that surrounds it. It's just silly that they can write such broadly worded patents, for things that their not even using. Plus they come up with this lawsuit what like five or more years later.
I'd love to see a turok/fallout style game, on the betheseda engine.
Like a post dinosaur apocalypse style thing, big open world, cities. Velociraptor and tyrannosaurus attacks.
