"How can a critic be right or wrong? We're talking opinions of subjective criteria - not facts."
Thats not actually true. Subjectivity comes into play for some things, but reviews are not 100% subjective. They can state things that aren't true or the score can contradict facts and so forth. Like I suppose you can say that someone can overlook a game being broken and still gush about it, but after a certain point you should disregard someones opinion.
Ignoring the fact this is yet another "opinion piece" that to start a dialog and every reviewer is different, that is not the case.
My favorite game from last generation, Spelunker HD (Yes! Someone was actually excited about the Spelunker Z / Project Z announcement), scored low for precisely this reason.
Metacritic average? 56
Here are some quotes from the lowest scoring reviews...
"The game is so difficult a...
"sad I missed it the first time"
He never sold the Hard Light.
The thing I love about the "pulse rifle usage problem" is that so much of it is based off fundamental choices Bungie made.
VoG? Not only did someone at Bungie think it was a good idea to restrict the pulse rifle to hard mode, they also made it an exclusive drop for the most difficult section of VoG on hard. In addition to that, they made it an arc weapon that simply can't match the Fatebringer and had so so perks.
Crota's End? Yet again the...
I never understood the issue people have with easy tasks.
Sometimes they exist for fun or no real reason and nothing says that every single last achievement / trophy needs to be hard earned. Plus there are a lot of them that aren't stupid things like "push start" or "create a character," which might not be hard for you or I, but is an accomplishment for someone else.
Maybe it's me, but I can't help but feel some people forget...
"These sites all have "rarest" or "hardest" stats, even time for completion, but none of them have taken the "fun factor" into account, through polls. I'll suggest it. ^^"
How do you really quantify fun or enjoyment? Like you could say Terminator is the most enjoyable platinum, since you don't need to go out of your way (outside of playing on hard) to platinum it. No side tasks, no need for a guide, no collectibles, just play an...
"Lost Planet 2 all those collectibles in the slot machine"
The slot machine isn't too bad. I think I had every item in the slot machine before I had the 200 chapters completed trophy. The really problematic things were all the weird titles and getting Number One.

"Doesn't require the skill just the time."
If you're talking about Lost Planet 2, then I would have to disagree. Part of ...
I only have one of them. Lost Planet 2. =\
"Woah Dave is pretty awful though"
I don't see whats so bad about Woah Dave. Sure it's a simple game, but it's a lot of fun if you don't mind arcade games and enjoy beating your records.
"when you start the argument with 3 games that had multiplayer... "
The thing that pissed me off about that statement is that there are so many great games that are single player only and are extremely short that you could have easily picked. God of War can be done in 2.5 hours, Metal Gear Rising is like 2 hours, Bayonetta is in the 2 - 3 hour range, Muramasa has a trophy for beating it in under 3 hours, etc. All solid games that are short and these are just ones of...
yes, but a different type of one. Like I tried to explain, you should focus on what it is and not what it could be. Likewise, these practices are becoming more common and should be in opinion pieces, not included in the review.
I said colored because I didn't want to simplify others views. Like just because you assume that people want black characters, doesn't mean there aren't some hoping for Latin, Asian and other groups that are not considered "white.&quo...
I will probably get a ton of disagrees for this, but this isn't the purpose of a review.
A review is an assessment of what is there, how well it's done and the overall value of the product. What you're looking for is more of an opinion piece, which is something a review should never be.
Look at it like this. If you take offense to something and want to make a big deal about it, then you look like an ***hole putting it in the review. If you feel ...
This is quite true, but at the same time I can't help but feel the author is grasping at straws or basically wants to make excuses for Evolve. Like I don't know anyone else, but I get sick of the "let me cherry pick some examples that prove my point." Especially since so much of this is in theory.
I mean, how can you say the Evolve season pass / additional Hunters and Monster are a good deal when we know practically nothing about anything listed here? Sure ...
@ ShugaCane
The issue here is that Spelunker is not popular in the West, but he is popular in the East. Similar to the teases that lead to things like Saint Seiya, Jojo's Bizarre Adventure, Hatsune Miku and plenty of other things that will do well in Japan and they care about, but people elsewhere would not.
Like in Japan there were two versions of the HD game ( http://www.spelunker-hd.com won top...
Never stopped Sony in the past.
Trine 2 was free in May 2012 and Trine 2 The Complete Story was free in June of 2014.
This is one of those things were people saw something and read it incorrectly or the wording changed after I saw it.
Basically, the "metacritic rule" was something that SOE put on documents that explained what top rated games meant in advertising. So if they were saying top rated games are free with Plus, it was just a disclaimer that said "top rated are games with a metacritic average of 70+" or something along these lines.
In the past ...
Sigh~ I get the feeling I will get a bunch of disagrees / comments from people who either didn't play the game or just want to defend Sony, so let me get this out of the way...
1) My comment wasn't directed at Soul Sacrifice specifically, but the trend in general. These being Saints Row IV, Dark Souls II, Borderlands collection, DmC and things of this nature.
2) Soul Sacrifice works on the PlayStation TV, so I can spend <$100 and accomplish number two and ...
I sincerely hope not. As much as I would love for this genre to get bigger in NA and people to play Soul Sacrifice, I am getting sick of the PlayStation 4 being a port machine. I swear, do companies understand that I didn't buy a $400 machine just to play enhanced ports of games I've already played?!
Again, don't get me wrong, some of these announcements have been awesome (not buying Borderlands Pre-Sequel really paid off), but it feels like every other day somet...
Man! I wish people like you would defend everything I do regardless of alternate view points.
Like maybe I can give away free voucher codes for something, but limit the giveaway to Women between 20 and 21, who're over 6' in height with green eyes and glasses from now (12:55 PM) until 11:59 PM and then you can all talk about how great and giving I am.
Seriously though, it's a nice gesture and far more than they had to do, but at the same time it&...
