RE the articles you posted, from the arstechnica one his issue seems to revolve around:
“Sweeney is accusing Microsoft of "unfairly disadvantaging" competing stores like Steam and Origin, as well as those who sell games directly to customers”
While those comments were made a couple of years ago, has Tim Sweeney not since done exactly the same thing with the Epic Games Store? Sounds to me like he’s just not a fan of the competition, whereas Sony ...
“you think Sony would pay for Epic to put a tech demo on the PS5?”
As someone who works in advertising, I don’t ‘think’ that, I know it. Rarely anything we see these days is done organically, and that’s fine because that’s just how it works.
It’s dense to think that Epic spent time and money putting together this presentation out of the goodness of their hearts with no monetary kickback involved, and then chose to pick a console instead of PC to showcase ...
As opposed to N4G users loudly announcing that they get all of MS’ first party games on PC, because “HEY GUYS REMEMBER MS NO GAMES HAHAHAHA”
Do you not know how this works? Marketing deals are dime a dozen in this industry - it’s literally why 3rd party games like Call of Duty presentations will switch from PlayStation to Xbox and then back over the course of a few years.
As for “why just epic” we’ve been told for ages that Sony is ‘waiting’ to show us what’s up with the PS5. It isn’t “just epic”, they’re just the first.
It’s not a bad practice at all, but when it gets taken and run with by fa...
“It was obvious the tech wasn’t exclusive, it’s about marketing exclusivity”
Fixed that for you
Unfortunately it had to be spelled out for some people
Xbox gets exclusive 3rd party stuff:: moneyhatting! They’re buying their way in!
Sony gets exclusive 3rd party stuff: it’s out of the goodness of the dev’s heart
They’ve almost done it. Fans somewhat agree that Halo 4 had a great campaign and bad multiplayer, while 5 had great multiplayer and an awful campaign. So I’m holding out hope.
As for running on the S, what kind of BS is that? Does that mean every Multiplatform game on PC is gimped because it has to run on consoles? Obviously not, so I don’t understand why that line of thinking suddenly applies here
This. Are people on N4G being wilfully ignorant? Or are they suddenly new to marketing deals? This is literally 3rd party software available to all devs
“They didn’t mention Xbox so it can’t run on it!”
Yeah just like how they never mentioned Call of Duty running on Xbox all those times it was at Sony’s E3 conference, what an exclusive that turned out to be /s
Yeah I didn’t think the tweet could get any frontier, and then I actually finished reading it
“Ourselves”
It’s literally an engine. There’s nothing exclusive about this so I don’t see what the problem is
Cerny: brings up teraflops and how they’re not really important.
A minute later, teraflops = not as good as Xbox
Cerny: brings up price and value
AKS: “I don’t think price will be too expensive because he talked about value”
On the original topic, Sony knows what they’re doing and they’ll bring a good price. I just thought that was a funny comparison to draw based on your comment
Don’t get me wrong, PS5 is going to be great, and I think next gen will be great for all consoles.
But is that really where we’re at now? Sony releases a video showing a new name and logo for their studios, and we’re comparing views to the rival console’s same video? Why is that a metric we should even be discussing?
“Then I saw the isometric view”
So I guess developers aren’t allowed artistic vision for their games anymore?
“ What have you been playing? oh! right! Sea Of ZZZZ!
We haven't finished with this gen yet.
MS was done with this gen in 2016.
Have a nice day.”
What a disingenuous comment. How come you’re ignoring:
2017 - Halo Wars 2, Cuphead, Forza 7, among others
2018 - Sea of Thieves (though apparently it doesn’t count if *you* think it’s boring), Forza Horizon 4, State of Decay 2
2019 - Ori Will of the Wisp...
@danoman
“The game is still going to sell”
I’m not sure I understand your point. Are you insinuating that the quality doesn’t matter, only how much it sells?
Are they though?
Ori came out in March, and that got mostly 9/10
Gears Tactics just came out and it’s getting mostly 8/10 (Granted release for PC with Xbox still upcoming)
Their last year or so of the 360 was pretty bare but we’re seeing really well reviewed games still coming out for the Xbox One, plus there’s likely to be big launch games with the Series X at the end of this year, as well as all Series X games coming to Xbox One for t...
Rare: this is the game we want to make
@genericgamer01: no it’s not
Forgive me if I believe the developer over you
Are they though? Is Ori and the Will or the Wisps designed around MTX? Is Gears Tactics? Is Forza Horizon 4? Is State of Decay?
For every instance of saying that Game Pass games are designed around MTX, I can list another where it’s not, so I feel like it’s not as clear cut as you want to make it
“ Wonder how Xbone is ending its console generation?”
By keeping it going for the next 1-2 years with all their first party games, for gamers who aren’t ready to upgrade.
I’m now ready for your response saying that an extra 1-2 years of support over the competition’s console is a bad thing
