“All of your games are going to work”

I mean, that’s just factually incorrect. They said (Almost) 100 at launch, how many PS4 games are currently available? And how many of those 100 games will be exclusives?

Even if they continue to add more over time (Remember, this is the same Sony that said people don’t play BC games), they’ve had years and years to bake this functionality into the console as it was being built, and they’ve still only come out with al...

It’s a really interesting comparison to look at that statement and compare it to the Xbox, where it took 2 weeks to get Gears 5 running at some crazy fps. Plus the Series X does some black magic and adds HDR to every BC game it plays (I’ll need to fact check this because I can’t remember where it, so take with a grain of salt)

@veneno

For some of us I’d rather take the $50 off than nothing. But I get there’s a crowd that keeps every console they’ve ever owned. That’s just not me

“So we shave a few seconds off loading times”

If you’re talking about the Xbox (and we know you are), 40 seconds is very different to ‘a few seconds’

Great call - God of War especially was praised at how it disguised it’s loading screens with gameplay (walking through cracks in the wall, that kind of thing), so I don’t know what the guy above is on about

@averagejoe

Read the comments above. A lot of people who are blasting MS are stating that external hard drives cannot be used at all. They aren’t clarifying the distinction between storing and playing

@Razzer

Just pulling this from your comment For clarity:

“You will be able to store Xbox Series X games on the drives“

So you can store them on there, but transfer them to the internal SSD if you want to play them.

I guess no one buys Multiplatform games on PC then, because they aren’t specifically built for the platform. Should just play on the lowest performing console, because developers won’t take advantage of high performing PCs If they’re catering to the lowest common denominator. /s

That’s legit your argument

What announcement did you read? They will be making them, but they’ll cross release on the current Xbox gen as well, meaning people who can’t afford to upgrade (or don’t want to) yet don’t have to

@oldboy

“Show us why they’ll be necessary, not just tell us the file sizes will be larger”

From The Verge:

“ This new expansion card support and built-in NVME SSD will mean significant improvements in load times. Microsoft demonstrated a 40-second improvement over the Xbox One X today, showing just how much SSD storage will impact gaming on the next-gen Xbox. It also allows Microsoft to enable multiple game resumes from standby or even ...

Pretty sure I saw you talking up SpiderMan PS4 a few days ago?

And nothing wrong with that, but “all indies for the last 2-4 years” is a pretty broad statement, that’s all

I’m just going to add some context by pasting a comment you made a few days ago:

“at least Sony will have exclusives for PS5”

So... when MS releases games on PC, that means they don’t have exclusives? But when Sony does it, that entices people to buy a console?

2304d ago 2 agree2 disagreeView comment

@boing1

Ah yes. I see the goal posts have now shifted from “PS has all these exclusives and they’ll never be on PC” to “well of course they’re on PC, but they’re not first party so it doesn’t count”

@rosweeSon

“hence not rushing it”

Just to be clear, crunch time is literally “rushing it”

2304d ago 3 agree0 disagreeView comment

You might need to explain why that distinction matters, because I don’t get it.

For comparison’s sake, there was a big fuss when Sunset Overdrive went to PC, and that’s not first party either. Are we now only counting first parties/when the publishers are the same between the platforms?

No matter how you cut it, they were only on PlayStation and now they’re on PS/PC. That can be good or bad depending on who you ask, but I think it’s disingenuous to start ...

Yeah I don’t know what this guy’s smoking

2307d ago 10 agree0 disagreeView comment

Why though? Last I checked Xbox is still around. I don’t think releasing exclusives on PC will kill Sony

One of the last good game journalists. Amazed that he’s still at Kotaku of all places

2307d ago 5 agree0 disagreeView comment

So first it was bad if console exclusives released on PC at all. But now it’s only bad if they launch same time as console.

If there’s one thing I’ve learned about the dedicated PC crowd, it’s that they’re generally stubborn and won’t care about waiting, especially for single player games where it’s not like the servers will dry up if they wait too long
