mgs4 was pretty awesome, epic even. but thats not what i wanted to get to.

lol i agree completely, but pray to god it doesnt happen. i have to point out the the vgas are hosted by spike tv, which is a hyper-masculine testosterone driven sausage fest, much like the whole gears series. high chance that theyll vote it the winner.
personally i think lbp SHOULD win on (re)innovation alone, because its doing things to advance the industry.
i WANT mgs4 to win, it was the most entertaining game this year, to me at least.

in my opinion, excellent analysis of the degradation of the survival horror genre.
i just picked up l4d on pc, and although its fun, it lacks the tenseness and "run out of ammo" feeling and really is quite limited in gameplay, although i appreciate what valve has done with it. it sucks, because theres a lot that l4d did right, imo, but theres also a lot it didnt do. it sucks because the zombie thing is kinda saturated, and the more titles that are put out that dont do...
lol are you kidding me? 360 has been on the market for TWICE as long, and they have comparable install bases there. 360 would have to sell 2:1 for another year and a half in order to be considered "on par" sales with the ps3
lol have you seen the wii zapper? or the racing wheel? lol. i mean, ill agree to legitimate addons, like a bluetooth headset, hd cables, or xbox live, but the wii zapper is just waaaaay too much. its just a piece of plastic that holds the controller in the right direction. i could do that with my hands, probably more efficiently. that A button is impossible to reach.
read speeds are not what ms had in mind when they said that. they claimed that the storage space was not necessary in this gen, which, for the most part is true, as most multiplat games only require 1 dvd. however, dvd is starting to show its age... 3 dvd star ocean is a big step in that direction. also, thats not to say that bluray ISNT useful, a lot of ps3 exclusives are trying to take advantage of the extra space.
just a point to add, not everyone NEEDS to buy a headset for ps3. it takes all bluetooth, so many people who already have one for their phones can use that. also, a lot of pc gamers have a wired usb headset as well, just something to take into consideration.
dvd read times used to be horrid as well. just because bluray is slow now, does not mean that its inferior tech. as it advances, it will get faster and faster, and we will eventually get those 128x speed drives like we have dvd drives now. 2x is just the best they have, for now.

although its a "dead" format for movies, theres nothing stopping them from putting games on it. the only advantage a bd drive has is that it can play movies. however, ms would not have to worry about the eventual pirating that is going to ensue when people figure out how to burn blurays, and bd burners become affordable.
ive been thinking, and its possible that they could avoid it...
they could bring back the hddvds, even though its a dead tech for movies, they could still put video games on it. and since it is not the standard for movies anymore, they wont have to worry about the pirating that will eventually become commonplace for bluray, because when bluray burners come down, you KNOW that people are going to be pirating that ish, its just a matter of time. hddvd, since its a dead tech, wont...

ms gains in europe are impressive, but still fail to trump the fact that the xbox and ps3 have almost an equal install base in europe, despite the fact that the xbox has been out twice as long. if ms were to "control" the region, theyd have to sell at a 2:1 rate for like, two years. and seeing how the surge is mainly due to reduced prices, i doubt that these sales leads will hold for more than a month or two. after that, the ps3 is bound to see equal sales increases when they dro...

i dont want to sound like im repeating myself, but i dont think that its a hardware problem. i think that a year or two down in this generation, we will start to see 1080p native games surface. it takes a lot more to develop a game in 1080p than in 720, more high res textures etc are needed, and that takes a lot more time and money to develop. especially in this day and age where games are getting a shorter dev time and are on ...

i think that we have different ideas about what constitutes a rpg.
in all honestly, i have not played fable2, and very little of mass effect, but i fail to see those as real rpgs, fallout3 as well. i could be mistaken, but fable2, from what the limited gameplay footage i have seen, looks like an action game with rpg elements, and mass effect is a shooter with rpg elements. i grew up with traditional jrpgs being THE definition of an rpg. traditional rpgs consisting of battle me...

you named like, 5 games. neither system has very many games that run natively in 1080p. the devs just dont have the resources to do it. look at the games you mentioned. vt3? portal? those are tiny games compared to say, gta4 or something. 720p is really the sweetspot for this generation. were not going to see 1080p native games commonly til maybe the next gen.

lol yes, but those are usually huge 360 "exclusives" like l4d, halo, gears1 and probably gears2. trine is a psn title. on top of that its a platformer, which are much more enjoyable to play on console because of the controllers. those exclusive shooters, however, are much better on pc, due to kb and mouse controls. plus, higher end pcs put out much better graphics than the 360 and ps3.
