I was ultimately disappointed we didn't see more exclusive demos and reveals from Sony, but I guess they are going to spread their announcements out. MS had a good gaming portfolio to reveal with actual exclusives, which is funny considering how low the bar was set for them. The Insomniac exclusive was pretty shocking.

It's smarter to have Plus than NOT have Plus. Assuming Sony continues with the Instant Game Collection quality, I will gladly pay for Plus.

Works both ways. People who jumped on any MS rumour are quick to be resistant towards the same rumour applying to Sony.
If Sony had DRM-free set in stone, I'd have expected them to state it much earlier, and with much more pride, but it seems they were waiting for MS's move and are now weighing their options considering MS's press reaction. Yeah, they said they'd leave it up to publishers, but I still want a solid confirmation at E3.

The XBox 360 controller is a fantastic controller all things considered. Yeah, the DPAD isn't on par, and the battery pack is annoying, but the Dualshock isn't perfect either. It's evident from the Dualshock 4 that Sony couldn't do nothing about the controller design, as a lot of people have really found the 360 d-pad to offer ...
What you are seeing isn't exclusively happening on N4G.
Fact is that the Xbox One reveal blew real hard. It's the same when PS3 first released its price, lacked rumble, had a poor/directionless online system, etc.

Xbox controller is really nice. I especially like the idea of resistant triggers.
But it completely lacks a touchpad, which I think is a pretty big thing as far as any real practical advantages go. I'm also unsure of the DPAD matching the PS4's. It still looks mushy.

Gamers are not fickle. They are legitimately unimpressed with what they saw, and for decent reasons
Sony was at their best when they practically monopolized with the PS2. Unlike MS at their height (360), Sony supported and funded games that may not have been all about the money (ICO).
Yeah, they did milk gamers (multitap, ethernet add on, memory card), while MS offered the more valuable box (more powerful, HDD, 4 controller support, etc.) but I have to say, Sony has generally been pretty solid with their philosophy.

I doubt this will be a feature for any other game for PS3. Seems like Naughty Dog just knew what to do, or was at least thoughtful of the implementation.

It's best not to respond to rumours. At the end of the day, these rumours will be dispelled by the time the product is announced, and everybody will move on and forget about them.
If they responded to this rumour, then more would come out with the expectation that MS respond to them.
It's just how companies work.
On a somewhat random note, I hope EA maps the Commo Rose to the touchpad for PS4 players, but I doubt it :(
