(stoked) a new Chrono game
(shocked) for the PS3
...given Square's undying and backwards love for the 360 lately.
Uncharted 2 just seemed to breeze by it's so good. before realizing it i was at Chapter 24 and had to force myself to stop playing it and put a few hours into Demon's Souls instead (hardly a bad alternative, btw). so much is made over the graphics that it does a disservice to the game's overall quality in controls, animation/physics and story. easily GotY for me!
while i can appreciate the comparison to Half-Life, it's a useless comparison to me personally. i'm one of the s...
Alan Wake's just an honorable mention? man, that was my most awaited exclusive for the 360 next year. all that money Microsoft used to buy multiplatforms and third-party exclusives could've easily gone into funding development of internal stuff. PS3's '09 exclusives completely overshadow everything on this list. hopefully Microsoft has a few aces up its sleeve.
i thought the whole Netflix fiasco had been solved, and Columbia Pictures movies were back on the 360?
as for as whether Sony bought exclusives back in the day, well, your guess is as good as mine. i'm not saying they didn't, but back then there was a legitimate argument for developers to cater to Playstation without a handout from Sony as an incentive: install base. Playstation and Playstation 2 dominated their generations. it made sense to stick with PS1 or PS2 exclusively...
yeah. it's a mistake to pledge loyalty, but i don't think it's wrong to have a preference one way or the other. like you said, no one knows how or why companies make the decisions they make concerning exclusivity; still, given what's known about Microsoft's practices, it's no stretch to assume they pretty much paid (underhanded) for what exclusive content they have, and i just don't "prefer" that practice. am i going to enjoy the fruits of it? of course. games is what matters m...
Microsoft: "Hey Capcom, we'll offer you $500k for a RE5 demo on our 360"
Sony: "We'll counter that. We'll offer you $1 million for a demo Capcom."
Microsoft (Bill Gates steps in): "$1 million? How about $20 million Capcom? Here, I've got some pocket change."
in other words it's pretty pointless and foolish to get into a bidding war with Microsoft. i'm sure Sony knows this, and i'd hardly say it's a reason to accuse...
Microsoft isn't taking care of it's users; they're just screwing the PS3 fanbase. if they would've put the money they've invested in buying exclusives into funding internal development instead, then yeah, i'd agree with you. do you honestly think Rockstar, Eidos or Bethesda wouldn't have made their dlc multiplatform (ie: for the 360 too) had Microsoft not offered them cash? in such a case the 360 owners would've still been taken care of.
360 fanboys (not saying you're one ...
true. but i still see far more used copies of GTA IV than any other game. the last time i went to the Gamestop i usually frequent, i saw about 16 used copies of GTA IV just on the 360 (about 9 on the PS3). it could be simply because GTA IV has sold more copies than practically any other game. still, seeing so many used copies doesn't bode well for the sales of the dlc.
even though i think Uncharted trounces Tomb Raider, i'm no PS3 fanboy. still, i do think it's rather funny how Microsoft basically paid Eidos to slap PS3 owners in the face, and now it's all come back to bite the both of them in the butt. i simply am not a fan of either of the big three throwing around cash to beat the competition, at least not the way Microsoft has done it. the money they paid for this and the GTA IV dlc could've easily went into funding one of their in-house studios. i'...
i'm starting to wish Sony would've just delayed the game to Nov. 1, that way we wouldn't have to suffer any more of these kinda articles, which are based on 4 days worth of sales.
well, i have run into my share of fanboy employees at GameStop, and i have had a few shoddy experiences at a GameStore that shall remain nameless, but in the case of midnight releases i believe it just comes down to economics. reservations determine whether or not a game has a midnight launch at GameStop, and since 360 games usually command more reserves (even over the Wii), 360 games are more likely to have a midnight launch.
still, i do detect a hint of biasness at GameSto...
last paragraph in article
"While the cooperative mode is a great addition, the game suffers from the same thing its predecessor did: lack of identity."
*scratches head*
i think the argument that "Resistance 2" and "Killzone 2" (since this article likes quotations) lacks "identity" (this article's version of originality) has to be one of the most erroneous, asinine arguments in the past few years, simply becau...
i usually get more traditional shooters on the 360 because of my preference for its triggers. but Mirror's Edge A) isn't really a shooter, and B) doesn't rely on the triggers nearly as much as it relies on R1 and L1 (or RB and LB on the 360). in this case the 360 Bumpers are way too skinny.
as for the game itself, well, the demo was everything i expected. this is a fresh, fun game; one i would be buying first day if it weren't already for my wallet being broken recently by F...
Killzone 2 gets slammed for being so gray; Resistance 2 gets slammed for being so colorful.
if we're talking "Over-Hyped" as in final review scores inadequately portraying what's generally agreed upon as the actual quality of the product, then GTA IV and Halo 3 immediately spring to mind. and as much as i liked it and think it was a good game, i gotta say that Mass Effect was SOMEWHAT overhyped too. but if we're talking "Over-Hyped" as in final product not living up to initial hype, then Lair and Too Human stand head and shoulders above the pack.
there's a difference. Versus XIII has been confirmed by Squenix as a PS3 exclusive. SO4 hasn't been confirmed as a 360 exclusive, not by either Squenix or Microsoft. if it were, don't you think Microsoft would be blasting the trumpets announcing it now?
as for FFVII remake, well, Squenix denies that even exists at the moment.
"teh apst 10 years"
are those Klingon years or something?
i got my first 360 in April of '06, but had to trade it in by Nov. '06 (financial issues). i got my second one little more than a year ago. neither my first one nor my current one has given me problems; while the 360 has some good games, they aren't THAT good to make me buy/repair the system three or four (let alone ten) times. i seriously hope mine never rrods, because if it does them i might go from a PSwii60 owner to just a PSWii owner. i don't believe in buying faulty products more th...
Uncharted is one heck of a fine game, don't get me wrong, but wouldn't it have made more sense for Sony to announce a LBP, Resistance 2 or even Pacific Rift bundle? at this point i'm sure a LBP bundle would sell sh*t tons. have they already announced any such bundles?
