In the PS2 era I never got to enjoy Ratchet & Clank, Sly Cooper or Jak & Daxter, probably because they didn't get as much hype as 3rd party exclusives like MGS2, FFX, DMC, GTA, etcetera. Spyro was a gem, so was Crash Bandicoot, and now they belong to Vivendi Universal. I actually never owned any, only played crash in demos, and that's it. I now played spyro on PS3 from PSN and it still is a great game. Sad that Sony had to let it go.

In terms of single player games at least, PS2 pushed gaming like no other console, its amount of exclusives was insane and it was able to compete in graphics against Gamecube and Xbox. The JRPG, adventure, Tactical Espionage Action, platforming, open world, and 3rd person action genres were significantly pushed forward in PS2 exclusives.
As for multiplayer gaming, N64 made a big push with 4 controllers as a standard, Xbox 1 with Xbox LIVE, and I think PSN might be the one that ...

Judging by the amount of price drops it gets, you'd think it's free. It probably costs the bare minimum which is probably why it was severe quality issues.

Next-gen isn't just about better graphics, it's about more processing power which allows for better games, i.e. a lot more interactivity. Physics is NOT graphics and yet you need better tech for better physics. Better physics allows for complex gameplay. Same thing can be said about Artificial Intelligence or amount of objects or effects on screen. They make the experience a whole lot better, and that's graphics aside.
