@Jumper:

Well, you're going to get it.
In a few months, actually.

A brief history lesson:

In 1988, while with Interplay, a man named Brian Fargo developed a post-apocalyptic survival RPG with a quirky sense of humor. It was called "Wasteland."

Then in 1997, Interplay geared up to develop a sequel, but due to various issues had lost the rights to the Wasteland name (Interplay was already on its way down)....

Telltale is making a Game of Thrones game?

...That could be awesome. But are they spreading themselves too thin? What about The Wolf Among Us?

And I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a little disappointed. I'd hoped that Telltale might tackle Doctor Who next. Still, TWAU was a huge improvement over TWD, so I'm crazy-psyched for whatever they do next.

Backwards compatibility is one of the most important things for me. Without it, I never would have bought a PS3, Vita, 3DS, or WiiU when I did.

I see so many gamers masturbating to the PS4, but I look at the monumentally anti-consumerist move Sony made by disallowing digital PS1, PS2, PS3 and PSN content, and feel sick to my stomach.

...

Arguably, this is a stength of PC gaming... but not entirely. There are many old games that are impossible...

...The WiiU VC and the Wii VC are two entirely different services.

And things would be even worse if they were the same, as Nintendo abandoned the Wii VC years ago.

I sure don't feel spoiled.

In fact, almost every passing day I feel even more perturbed/irritated/annoyed with how anachronistic and backward Nintendo can be, and the constant delays and silence regarding basic hardware functionality that should have been implemented day one.

And let's not even mention the snail's-pace of WiiU releases.
Or the abysmal support of the virtual console.

The only thing Nintendo is "spoilin...

It's not absolute trash.

It has very, very high production values. And if this generation has taught us anything, it's that a vast quantity (a majority, actually) of gamers are incapable of distinguishing between game quality and production quality.

That's because they're finally in that sweet spot where they have the raw power to deliver aesthetically impressive games with lots of complexity, but don't have so much mechanical power that development is prohibitively expensive.

Basically, this handheld generation is analogous to the sweet-spot console games were in during the PS2 era, or PC games from 1998-2003.

Enjoy it while it lasts.

Hasn't anyone learned by now? It's always a terrible idea to get your hopes up when it comes to ANY of the big three--Nintendo most of all.

Hits?

I never literally lol, or laugh out loud.

But I'll be damned if I didn't chuckle audibly at that.

It's saying way too much.

The PS2, and even PS3, were both far superior machines when they launched.

But I guess I'm probably wrong, since I'm one of those old-fashioned cooks who thinks games and media functionality matter more than arbitrary technical specifications.

...Was there even a PC version of FF9 to begin with?

4596d ago 0 agree0 disagreeView comment

HD only has to do with screen resolution. This is the same as the PS1 version, with support for higher resolutions and different aspect ratios.

They're only calling the re-release "HD" to trick gullible consumers into thinking it's a remake. Literally all they did was teak a few settings in the original PC game, and re-release it digitally.

I wish.

It's only the third 3D mario game to actually be good. That it's phenomenal is icing on the cake.

But, by all means, keep trolling. You're really very good at it.

Not really.
I have a PC.
Only games that matter for consoles are their exclusives, which is why BC and importing is such a huge deal for me.

That's silly. You're silly.

1. Super Mario 3D World
2. The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker HD
3. Donkey Kong Country Returns: Tropical Freeze
4. Pikmin 3
5. Mario Kart 8
6. X
7. Wii backwards compatibility
8. SNES virtual console
9. N64 virtual console
10. Dragon Quest X

When the American DOD locked down PS2 shipments because the processors were "so advanced" they were worried terrorists would steal them to use for missile guidance systems?

I haven't seen the kind of spectacularly ballsy viral marketing in a long time.

What lies beneath the hype?

A typical launch line-up of games that aren't worth anyone's time.
And a lack of ANY form for backwards compatibility to encourage early adopters.

The biggest thing the PS4 has going for it right now, from my perspective, is that it's region free, and I tend to import a lot of games... but at the same time the biggest Japanese publisher, Bandai-Namco, is moving more and more to really awful free-to-play models. ...

I hope not.

He should lecture enemies on the superiority of 8bit graphics over 16bit.

Glad to hear they actually noticed it. Most Japanese developers are so insular it's hard to tell if they ever hear anything consumers say.

Amazon seller prices are NOT an indicator of scarcity. If I had a dime for every time I saw a relatively-easy to find item on Amazon listed at over $1000 USD, I'd have enough money to foolishly spend on one of 'em.
