No one care about X. No one cares about XI. We have been clamoring for DQ73D for more than a year now, and the various handheld spinoffs for longer.

No, those aren't platform exclusives. Many of those are multiplatform titles. Many of them are also not localized in English, and many more aren't all that good.

My point stands: there are far too few A-grade platform exclusives on Vita. This shouldn't be news to you. This has been the case since day 1 and is widely recognized as the chief reason for the Vita's failure to move as many units as the 3DS, or to attract as much 3rd party development.

I have no idea what you're trying to say.

But 100% of PSV games can be played "mobile." It's a handheld gaming platform.

But thanks for the bigass list of... games that don't have anything in common?

My problem with the Vita isn't so much the lack of AAA games (which are usually too casual for me to care about) but the lack of platform-exclusive games.

Yeah, I love playing some Final Fantasy X, or Persona 4, or Rogue Legacy or whatever on my Vita... but it'd be nice to have more games that I could ONLY play on the Vita, to justify its existence. Right now, it's basically just a platform for me to play games I could play on other machines, but "mobile.&quo...

Nintendo didn't suddenly stop making NDS games and start making DSi games, so that's a poor analogy.

There's really only one appropriate analogy, and that's the Gameboy/Gameboy Color--and even then, that's probably too dated to be relevant to today's conditions.

NGB (1989)
GBC (1998) - 9 years later (NGB gen. 12 years)
GBA (2001) - 3 years later (GBA gen. 3 years)
NDS (2004)
NDSi (2008) - 4 years later (...

Maybe. The Vita seems like it will keep doing as-good as before, maybe a bit better. I can't say I'm as confident in the 3DS. It really depends on how badly Nintendo wants to fracture the market between 3DS and N3DS games.

If the N3DS plays out (as I expect it to) like the N64's Expansion Pack, with only 2-3 games really needing it, I don't see it having much of an impact. But if they stop 3DS development (right at the point when the 3DS is finally in a very s...

I'm sorry.

Two (counter) points:

1. The majority of -games- alternate between narrative (delivered in cutscenes) and gameplay. This is not something inherent to SMT games, or JRPGs, or RPGs--it is inherent to the medium. Only very recently have we had games that deliver narratives through ambient or environmental narration--and even then, only partially. If you can't tolerate that kind of discrete narrative, I can only weep for all of the fantastic games you'll never be able to ...

Well, it's not like there have been a lot of big WiiU games in the past 9 months, and what big WiiU games there have been were big enough that they didn't need demos to sell.

You are very much in the minority if you think you need a demo to understand the basic gameplay and level of quality in Tropical Freeze or 3D World. The basic Nintendo standard of quality for their 2D platformers and 3D platformers... is more constant than anything else in our sorry little indust...

It's never too late to become a Persona/SMT fan.

As for Dragon Quest... be angry at it for being an action game, but then be happy it's an action game: that makes it the ONLY Dragon Quest game with even the tiniest chance of being released outside of Japan.

Those are... pretty tame discounts.

Nintendo is still about 20 years behind the curve when it comes to online stuff. Be grateful they have an eshop at all.

4231d ago 0 agree1 disagreeView comment

Not sure how that matters. DQ is a turn-based franchise; this is a DQ-fanservice game. There's barely any point to paying attention to it if you actively dislike Dragon Quest.

Dunno why you're getting so many disagrees.

This bothers the hell out of me, too. And it's bad for gaming in general because it disincentives developers from putting much (if any) effort into those aspects of fighting/strategy/action games.

It's so goddamn half-assed. On both the part of the developers, and the gamers who are too timid to ask for better.

Take as many bubbles as you like. It won't change the fact that you're incapable of even attempting to frame a counterargument.

Surprised you got a disagree. Even with non-gamic interactive digital media, the systems by which the user interacts with the media are of at least equal importance to any other element of the media itself.

Anyway, I haven't disliked a single AC game yet... but I can't imagine Unity being anything but repetitive and bland. Each AC game so far has brought something new and exciting to the basic formula:

AC1 gave us big cities and wilderness roads to ex...

Yeah, Advent Children really ignored ALL of the characterization from the game in favor of... stupid, shallow, bland characters. It was absolutely terrible.

Though I would argue that Balthier was also "cool."

Don't expect Ni no Kuni to dislodge any of your favorite RPGs any time soon. There's a reason why it just sort of disappeared a few months after release--sure, it has great production values, but it's pretty much the embodiment of a generic, perfunctory RPG. Level 5 really went out of their way not to take ANY risks.

Does this really need to be spelled out?

The RPG genre is the most wildly diverse gamic genre we have. Discriminating games based on the ethnicity or nationality of the developer IS racism.

Just because it's a common attitude among the gaming community doesn't make it any less racist. Sadly, our community is rampant with racism, sexism, homophobia, and pretty much every other manner of nastiness you can imagine.

Don't worry. The Playstation 4 isn't quite on the same level as the Vita just yet.

EDIT: so, from the disagrees, some people think the PS4 is on the same level as the Vita? Well, I can kind of understand that. But I think there's an important distinction to be made: the many remakes/ports/rereleases of relatively recent games on the PS4 are all from OTHER platforms; whereas the spat of remakes/ports/rereleases of games on the Vita are, in many cases, from OTHER Vi...
