The BDA earns a royalty of over $9 for each Blu-ray player or drive sold; and a royalty of $ 0.0725 per disc. A no drive Xbox Series X would be some millions a year negative for Sony income.
It is not a good system, it is two main systems with a lot of problems for developers, buyers, marketing, PR, retailers, logistics and others implied in selling it.

Two consoles (Xbox Series S + Xbox Series X) vs One console (PS5 with/without optic unit). Where are those who said that it was a good movement from Microsoft, insulting and confronting us when Series S was announced? Where are those analysts from Forbes and company? Well... it seems that PS5 is a better designed machine, with better dynamic hardware escalation than fixed Xbox Series design. But, really, it seems the problem is with software environment for developers, where tools tell where and when to squeeze the system. PS5 DEV kit does it in a more automatic way than XDK, for the moment. Yes, Xbox Series S can be a time consuming pit for smaller teams or big projects like Cyberpunk 2077, but Microsoft are trying hard to improve. Also, Unreal Engine 5....
