First off, 70% is rediculously good for first party developers anyway. Considering the ammount of work that M$ has to go through for certification and other stuff to get the game up on XBLA, AND the fact that the indy devs have a huge user base (over 10 million users with access to their game for purchase) to sell their games to, 70% was a huge bargain at the time. Developers that make M$'s job easy will still get a huge chunk of money, and, like the article said, it's very possible M$ is try...

You're still ignoring the fact that it's common business practice to play devil's advocate to people pitching things just to make sure the company really knows their product. It's very likely EA knows exactly how it will benefit them, and whether or not it's worth their time already. It gives them a good idea of how seriously sony's taking it.

You missed the other reason. While you shouldn't expect EA to not want to make money, there's more to it than just whether or not EA wants to make money. Knowing the company your doing business with has your best interests in mind is just as important.

Either way, easter eggs are different than a company wanting you to go above and beyond to make an out of game feature for your game exclusive to their console. Personally, I'd want to know why they want me to do it too. Are you ...

There are bigger problems with PSN that could be solved with the resources they're putting into home.

Pretty sure the EA guy meant more along the lines of why should they put time into modeling the trophies when probably 99% of them will never get used. There might be one or two trophies people will get because they look cool, the rest will be for the points. I wouldn't want to have my artists spend a couple days making a trophy that's going to be on display in one persons room.

Even so, it's common business practice to ask questions you already know the answer to just to see h...

How long is the long run? you do know that eve if the PS3 outsells the 360 it'll still take lik half a decade before it passes it right?

The balls in the cry engine version sometimes like grow little arms and things. wtf's up with that?

This announcement isn't an admission of PS3 being more powerful, it's an admission that PS3 is harder to program for. If anything, there'll just be fewer games with ports that don't perform as well.

Anyone who thinks this means the PS3 versions will be better than the 360 versions is fooling themselves. The PS3 version will be better compared to what it would have been, but it's more likely the games will just perform more evenly on both consoles.

Exclusives will...

You aren't supposed to show off new titles at GDC, regardless of whether or not sony did it last year. E3 is still around, it's still wide open to the press (and more accessible to them because they don't have to deal with crowds), and just as big a press event as it's ever been. The public just isn't allowed anymore.

The LBP/XNA remark was at someone up higher, I just had to say it. Personally, I'd rather have a service where I can both make whatever I want, and play any of th...

What sony did at GDC last year was practically against everything that is GDC. GDC IS NOT ABOUT ANNOUNCING GAMES. GDC is about announcing new features in your gamesm, new ways to use the engines, new ideas in game design, and other DEVELOPMENT/DESIGN things.

It is not E3. Anyone who thinks it is is just blinded because of the act of heresy sony put on last year.

Also, XNA>LBP. Unlike LBP, which is a level editor for a single game, opening XNA for downloadable ...

I highly doubt that's all they have. The Gears announcement wasn't even really a teaser trailer. If they were really using it as an announcement platform I think they'd go all out on those things instead of just a few announcements like that. Even if those 3 things is all they have, you could've made them look a lot better than they did if you were trying to sell it.

I'd still definately wait till E3.

This would definately be worth it if they release new content with it. The thing I'd be most worried about is the game getting canned before it gets to the 360. The mmo market is a cruel mistress if you don't get a large player base that sticks with the game for a while.

Lets cross our fingers. Of course, I haven't heard any huge problems with porting from PC to 360 (if it can run on the 360's specs in the first place), so maybe that's an "at the latest" date.

I'm definately a M$ fan/Anti-sony fan, but I have to say the PS3 version will sell more. Why? For the simple reason that Sony fanboys have big giant raging boners for established sony franchises. They'd buy poop in a box if it said "Final Fantasy" on it. Don't even pretend like you wouldn't either.

It's a phenomenon I've seen especially in people that like Sony. Most M$ fans will still buy the games (they buy lots of stuff to begin with), but they'll admit flaws in th...

GDC isn't about announcing new games. It's about announcing new features that are being put into gaming as a whole, and how it's going to affect development. Wait for E3 if you want title announcements. GDC is called the game developer's conference for a reason. It's about development, not advertising.

That said, the XBL/XNA marketplace announcement was a pretty huge one that's going to have a huge impact on the 360. Knowing that you have a constantly updated original game libr...

Though they would have to watch out for achievement farming, the games that come out of this and get picked up or popular enough might be able to get achievements put into the games.

Why should I pick one or the other? They're both true. The aren't mutually exclusive.

Not sure if you've noticed, but there's a lot more world out there than just the US. Even so, I'm upper middle class. Of the people I know, I can only think of maybe 10 that own an HD set. Of those 10, only 3 have an HD set as part of a media center rather than just a TV. Of those 3 (or even of the 10), only one has an HD media player.

HD-media isn't saturated enough for Blu-Ray...

"To the average user, there is no real advantage to having blu-ray over DVD. If I have a standard TV, it looks exactly the same, performs exactly the same, and unless I'm an audiophile sounds about the same."

I said that. The average user DOESN'T HAVE AN HD SET OR A POWERFUL SOUND SYSTEM. They have a standard 480i/p set, and that is all.

DVD compliments the general standard in households, that's why it sells so well. You don't need to invest $1000s in a...

Did any of you actually read his argument? He never said Blu-Ray winning was a format victory for M$. He said Sony's concentration on the format war helped M$ in the console war, and it did.

People should read the whole article, not just the headline, before posting.

Why do you all think the only thing that's going to take down Blu-Ray is DD? Flash media and holo-disc are two types of storage that actually have staying power. Flash media's adaptable size makes it almost impossible to outdate, and holo-disc has size capacities that are so rediculous you can fit entire movie series on them in high definition with plenty of room to spare.

I'd be more worried about those two in the next 2 years than anything else. For blu-ray to really pay off,...
