Best played on PS3.
Looks like Sony's cheque to IGN was not honored upon presentation...
Nonetheless, there's still LBP and Resistance 2 to play on PS3, so nobody should be complaining.
Sounds like IGN liked it, but Sony's cheque to them prohibited them from scoring anything more than a 7.
Very good question. I visit Kotaku too and only people without a sense of humor will think they're trash. They direct their criticisms at Sony, 360 and Wii equally, and you'd realize that unless you're an ultra sensitive Sony whiner.
But what do I know? Go ask the resident hatemonger on this site, that morganfella above. He seems to hate Kotaku with a passion like they stole his favorite carebear plushie or something.
This is where I say you are entitled to your opinion eh?
My opinion based on the demo I played, is this game should be anywhere from 7.5 to 8.5 (max). It is good, just isn't fantabulistically good. I think this review got it right.
8 isn't a bad score btw. Unless you think Motorstorm 2 is bad.
Well said Snuka. Though 9,001 sales for Valkria is way too generous.
Thank you for attaching those images, although I note that for E.S., you attached an image of a battle screen and we all know that battle screens generally show the worst graphics of JRPGs.
Even from that image you attached of Valkria, are you seriously of the view that that kind of 'artwork' deserves a 9??? My, my, how forgiving we've all become when it comes to PS3 exclusives eh?
Lol! Like what?
I don't disagree with your theory, but in this case, the artstyle of Valkria is not fundamentally different from those employed in Eternal Sonata and Tales of Vesperia. Perhaps more pastel colors, perhaps a hint of oil painting. But this is certainly not an Okami. The final impression is that it does not depart from the style of Eternal Sonata, so there is absolutely no reason not to make the comparison.
Another AAA PS3 game confirmed...
I wonder if IGN will revise this review too, maybe boost it up to a 9.9 so that the metacritic score goes above 90?
According to IGN, the graphics on Eternal Sonata are worth a 8.5 but the graphics on this game are worth a 9.0. Quite clearly, there is something seriously amiss and only a Nasim will deny that.
This is the final conclusive evidence in a string of recent incidents showing that Sony did send IGN a cheque. I downloaded this game and played it and I ENJOYED it
BUT NO WAY IN HELL is this game a 9.0, no way in hell are the graphics, sound and presentation 9+.
Kudos to Sony, their cheque made sure that IGN overlooked all these bugs in the game.
Just another Sony fiasco, nothing to be alarmed about.
To me this is clear evidence that Sony sent a big fat cheque to IGN recently. That explains some of the PS3 review scores.
I just played the demo and I stand by what I said. Lara is 10x more athletic, more agile, more acrobatic than Nathan and 100x sexier too (wish they boosted the polygon count on Lara though). The climbing and jumping around sequences in Uncharted were basically automatic and posed little to no challenge but Lara has so many more options in what she can do. I don't like the camera angles on this game though.
If what you're suggesting is true, which is not admitted, then it is really a case of lazy developers and corrupt reviewers reviewing LBP even before the online gameplay, which is such an essential part of the game, is tested.
This will be the game to teach Naughty Dog a thing or 2 about gameplay design for Uncharted 2.
Eurogamer is probably one of the toughest, most stringent and most discerning reviewers. Resistance 2 got what, an 8 from them? And Fable 2 a 10.
