I hope there's a release for DMC HD Collection for PS3 and it outsells this DMC reboot. Seems like NT/Capcom don't have much interest in what the fans like, and are more interested in broadening the target audience (at the expense of it's existing fanbase). From the looks of it, they're marketing it towards teenage girls who love sparkly vampires.

Far Cry 2 is also a numbered sequel but still made this list due to different developers.
I'd still consider this a reboot, considering how different the gameplay is.
I'd say Fallout 3 would be a good example of this.

He has a point though, to me it seemed like checkpoints occurred too frequently or too sparingly. I don't expect to have a quicksave system, checkpoints are fine, but they don't seem consistent. I like the idea of receiving checkpoints when you do something notable, example kill a pair of hunters or take out a wraith tank, or progress through an encounter, and most of the time that happened, but not always.

While you're correct about mouse/kb vs controller, problem is that console games aren't designed to use a keyboard and mouse, so you can't just switch to them on a console and expect it to perform like on a PC. The code to interpret analog sticks is very different from mouse input, so you'll end up with very awkward feeling mouse movements. That's why splitfish and other designs never worked out well.

Sure 360 has some variety, but even MS themselves have stated they're looking to secure more shooters on their platform, which is already shooter centric. What has MS been putting money into aside from shooters? Kinect?
When you look at the exclusives, don't you notice something about Sony's offerings? Only 3 of 10 are shooters, and even then I'm not sure I'd classify MGS4 as a shooter. You can play it like a shooter, but you can also play it as a stealth game.
The rest are racing/sports/action/platforme rs/RPGs. Says something about what Sony is putting money into.

I'm really enjoying the campaign as it is a lot of fun (although a lot of the cheap one-shot deaths can be frustrating, playing on heroic), but story wise, it really isn't holding my attention all that well.

Higher resolution textures aren't the only use for additional space. More texture variation, more/higher quality audio (multi-audio releases would benefit from this), just more content in general. It's also useful for data placement for efficient reading, so you can double up on common resources.
