To this day no one has been able to properly explain to me why Zelda BOTW is a better game than Horizon Zero Dawn. You're welcome to try if you want. It's not even a better game than Witcher 3 and I like Horizon better than that game as well.

Mario Odyssey is a great game, chock full of terrific level design and mechanics and I honestly wouldn't be mad if it won. However Zelda BOTW IMO is the most overrated game in recent memory. It does ABSOLUTELY nothing better than the countless open world games that came before it. If the game had any other name attached to it besides Zelda, it would've been a mere footnote among all the amazing games that came out this year.
It would be my choice for sure but it'll be either Zelda or Mario.
