Red Dead Redemption from a smaller developer/publisher would have been graded much more harshly. I thought there were a lot of flaws that were overlooked/ignored, and while it had its impressive points, my over-whelming feeling was "Gun" was better.
Skyward Sword deserves an honorable mention, but my hate for it places it far out of reach for something as mild as overrated.
I believe Nintendo needs to take a lesson from writing fiction.
Show don't tell.
They need to show us that there will be something coming after launch, and show us what the console can do with a REAL game, not another mini-game compilation. ZombiU is the only game so far that makes me go "Wow, this is why I need to get this console."
They don't need to tell us that fans don't want to understand and please don't tell us Nintendo...
It will be interesting how they "balance" between genuine critique and smear campaigns. Nintendo usually just ignores any complaints and plays dumb when they can't dodge a question.
That said, it would also be a shame for a good game to be ruined (sales wise) just because people decide they want to hate on it.
As I said, it will be interesting.
I do respect the opinions of the Zelda Informer guys, since they try to be fair and detailed in their arguements.
I do find their points interesting since I hated Skyward Sword, almost to the point I don't even want to play any future games from the series for fear of more heartbreak (OoT is my favorite game, Majora's Mask is 4th and the rest that I've played so far are in my top 15).
For the record, I loved the motion controls and the graphics. It w...
Well put.
While I agree fans had a right to be upset, and that creatively, the ending was in poor taste and rushed, I do believe how the masses handled it was immature in their criticism. However, the same can be said for those who unquestioningly supported Bioware and attacked the disgruntled fans using words like 'entitled' incorrectly.
This was a very well written article. Heartfelt while still steeped in logic. Definitely worth a read.
I can agree that people always want to know what's next, versus being content with what they have. That may be more pronounced in the gamer community, but it is common across all aspects of life.
The point I come from, when I critique Nintendo's conference, is that they don't understand why people are wary. Yes, Pikmin 3 will be awesome, but it was promised for the Wii years ago. Yes, ZombiU and Rayman Legends look cool, but how many hours of gameplay can y...
This article is a little on the generalized side, and doesn't take into account the reasons for people being rightfully upset, but I do agree with the core arguement that there is a serious lack of respect and maturity toward dealing with problems or opposing viewpoints. However, as previously said, it is an internet thing. My philosophy professor once asked, "if there were no consequences or punishments for your actions, would you still obey laws?" Of course, everyone said t...
Yes, I may do that after the WiiU has built up a good library.
I agree, although it is sad that it became about the money. The original promise of the Wii, making things more intuitive and bringing more people into gaming, seemed like great things. I still believe that is a noble goal.
But, I suppose that is just business.
Reggie's statements are why I am wary of picking up a WiiU. Yes, the Wii had many great titles, core titles (since many commentors seem to believe a hardcore title must be an M rated FPS, I shall refer to other games that take time and commitment to complete as core).
Getting back to point, the issue with the lack of core titles stems from the consoles life. The first 2-3 years were filled with many great games. When I complain about the lack of games, it generates...
I see a 3 at the end of the game's title. Logic would indicate sales up to this point were good enough for the series to continue to this point. It would indicate there was money made. So why the sudden urgency?
So... more shooters?
I don't mind violence, but it has gotten to the point where it is used in place of creativity.
And not to start a war here, but reading through many of the comments people are kind of proving him right.
Before you argue, the question I pose is if you took the blood and violence out of a game you love, and you no longer enjoy it or it now sucks, what does that say about the real game? The core concept beneath the glossy red sheen. What does tha...
An interesting bit about how he made sure to mention independent developers... especially since a few years back he had no use for indie guys, or as he called them, "people working out of their garages."
Overall, his comments are interesting, and seeing how Nintendo's plans unfold will be equally so.
Hate to argue, but they've been caught in several lies since the massive success of the Wii, and refusing to give answers to questions they don't like doesn't strike me as honest. However, Nintendo and its staff have some of the best and most creative people on the planet and people respect that. However, I fear a lot of that respect comes from the company's history more so than its current business practices.
To translate "We are really hoping Wii Fit U, Nintendo Land, and our other minigames help bring back our profits so we don't have to worry about building anything substantial and requiring effort."
Now, that my snark is out of the way. I do believe Mr. Iwata is a very intelligent individual, and considering Nintendo is trying to woo the traditional fans back, he wouldn't shoot himself in the foot like this so the article definitely takes things out of c...
I can understand what they're talking about, given that everything they do gets copied from hardware to games. Nintendo usually wins out for superior quality and having the "we had it first" advantage. However, given Nintendo's recent history, I can't help but feel this is just another excuse from them. They've coasted along in the casual market while only occasionally tossing a more involving title to keep the traditional fan engaged for years now. I hope I'...
And here I am with barely 2mb/minute on a good day with DSL. Would love for this to be available in my area.
