While the game is impressive visually I feel as though the engine is capable of a lot more. If crytek are just prepared to throw out modding tools then I can guarantee you the PC community will be throwing out mods and maps that'll pound the living day lights out of vanilla crysis 2.

I'm not a fan of the series but I've tried my best to get into the latest installments. Resi4 however had an unforgiveable PC port and resi5 wasn't exactly winning my heart over with so many bugs and (imo) awful gunplay.

It'll be nice to get sandbox 3 out on the table. It's pretty much up to the modding community to save crysis 2 since crytek figured the best thing they could do with the most powerful graphical engine in existence was to make a linear shooter with repetitive urban environments.
What is it with crytek and only ever doing ONE environment per game? For two games it was jungle and now it's urban. Can they just not be arsed to make more than one set of assets?

Well I've got to admit they've handled it with a sense of humour. I'll forgive them if we get an SP and MP demo.
Bethesda is just one example of a developer who puts out multiplatform games without damaging the PC version. Crytek showed a clear and marked intention to refine the game to appeal to a wider audience. This wouldn't be a problem for something like Stalker or Metro2033 that were rough gems that needed a little polish but Crysis was a pretty solid game and the sequel should have played on its strengths, not refined them.

Pretty much what Thecraft said but it's worth adding that Steam is basically glorified DRM but rather than inconvenience the consumer it actually makes life easier by having all your games assigned to single easy to use place.
