Torchlight 2 looks to be the Diablo II to it's Torchlight and at least it's likely to come out this year unlike Diablo III, but you could swap it out for Grim Dawn if you like.

Why does everyone put games like the Darkness 2 and Syndicate on PC game lists for 2012? Well this gen had a staggered launch with 360 coming out in 2005 then Wii and PS3 in 2006 but then the PS3 didn't launch in Europe and others until 2007 so I think the first 3 years (05, 06, 07) count as the start of the generation.
When a console first launches there is always a shortage of content so consumers are more likely to buy a game in a franchise they are not familiar with. That is the theory anyway, and one that most of the industry follows which is why you see a lot of new IPs and reboots at the start of a generation.

Mass Effect 2 definitely has it's flaws but I found the cast of characters much better than the first, except for Jack, Jacob and Garrus all three of which were just annoying, clichéd and boring. And the plot was utter tripe plus the RPG elements were way to my first RPG for my liking.

That is a stupid argument, you can't play 90% of the 2012 games on your list, make up your mind is your list about games of 2012 or today? Maybe you should have kept your 2011 games in your best games of 2011 list (or made a list of 2011 games worth playing in 2012 list) and made a separate 2012 list? that is what everyone else does and it would have avoided this problem.
