It sounds like a one-time thing during setup.
Why do some low-quality websites have to present this as some kind of always-on internet required scandal?
‘Most new subscriptions on launch day’ without numerical context, actual figures, is meaningless.
Starfield had been hyper anticipated for years, the cheapest method to access and play it is with Game Pass - so that this game has a been a bigger draw than Forza Horizon 5 and the scaled back Halo Infinite is not a surprise. Halo Infinite’s launch, might’ve led to ten new subscriptions and Starfield, just eleven. Of course it won’t be as low as that but without Microsoft givi...
Game Pass’ success, with the present business model, depends on Xbox consoles gaining a massive user base. However if the hardware business is underperforming then MS will be squandering its new IP. Minecraft is its biggest game for revenue, if it can generate or beat that kind of profit with Call of Duty without having to invest in hardware than maybe Phil Spencer is right in claiming that MS will consider exiting the hardware business.
@Roarke Great point!
Jeeze, the PS3 Red Dead remaster is outselling Starfield which dropped out off the UK top ten just 1-2 weeks after its ‘number 1’ debut.
Many websites used Starfield’s first week success to claim it’s ’proof’ that Game Pass / subscription services don’t affect games sales, but clearly it does because in terms of unit sales it has no legs.
The visuals and the art design are incredible, you can see the budget onscreen. I hope there’s a great game in there too. What’s encouraging is that it’s in the polishing stage, meaning the game is ostensibly complete. This could mean a release by the end of 2024.
“Xbox Has Yet To Replicate Its Late 2000s Golden Age”
Starfield, Redfall, Pentiment & Forza Motorsport say “Hi!”
Sly Cooper, Twisted Metal, Jak & Dexter and MAG - all mid level outdated PS2 crapola that will struggle to find an audience. Who wrote this article - someone who wants PlayStation to fail?!
@Wyqmc Imagine being so toxically invested in the format war that you create a new alt account on N4G just to make that your first comment.
Good guy Phil.
There is a risk that PlayStation and Nintendo might not get new Call of Duty games day and date with Xbox, or with all the same features. But Phil will save the day as he ‘aims’ for them to have parity with the Xbox version.
I remember playing King Kong back on Xbox 360 just to get the easy 1000 gamerscore back when I actually cared about all that.
@Mika He’s the communications guy - you can’t blame him for the quality of the product.
Phenomenal numbers. No game/franchise can live forever but because of Minecraft's universal appeal to new generations of children it will always have a new audience.

I genuinely think this is a better buy for Microsoft than Call of Duty.
They made her into a boss-babe for the American market.
@Reaper22_ if your immature fanboy-view of the world really makes you be believe that Jim Ryan was fired by PlayStation because he ‘lost’ and Phil Spencer ‘won’ then you really know nothing. Ryan was with Sony for nearly 30 years and he’s now decided it’s time to retire. Leave aside any biases for your preferred console, the PS5 is a more successful console than Xbox Series in install base and profit. Ryan launched the PS5 during covid and it is the bestselling new gen console by a large marg...
Now all Microsoft needs to do is get hold of Nintendo and the prophecy will be fulfilled.
These clickbait articles that argue what no one is arguing are really taking this place down the shitter.
Probably the same developer that made Starfield.
Think about the most likely use case: a person who has a PS5 Slim digital will have been using the console to download then play digital games, in other words just like Xbox Series S users. These consoles literally need the internet to work. If then a PS5 Slim DE owner wants to play disc-based games they will now have the option of buying an add-on that will require access to the internet for setup - considering they would have been using their console with the internet this one time is hard...
