I know many folks don't want to hear it, but Madden is exactly the kind of game (heavy on animation and AI, but not so much on graphics) that could perform better on the XB1 than the PS4, due to the CPU and memory latency differences. Framerate is bound both by CPU and GPU, remember ..even the Drive Club devs quoted this as the main reason they wanted 30 Hz instead of 60 -- they needed more time to do a better simulation (on the CPU), and used the extra GPU time to make the game look fan...
Destiny will NEVER outsell CoD or GTA. That's ridiculous.
Res should always be sacrificed for overall image quality, framerate, and things like lighting and other such effects.
Res is the LAST thing that devs should worry about, past true 720p.
Most games last gen didn't hit 720p, and the ones that did weren't 60 Hz, or lacked a TON of detail that they really needed. Asking for both improved detail and better rez is fine, but given what the consoles offer, expecting both is ridiculous. The only kind of gam...
Ha ha ha! Now you can stream games from YOUR uplink? Oh yeah... that's gonna be.. something.
When will people get over the stupidity of streamed gaming? If it was cheap -- and I mean dirt cheap -- then maybe the professional services (like Gaikai) would be okay, but it is *never* gonna work from your own console, to your friends, in a decent way.
In any case, it'll never be dirt cheap, because running a huge battery of machines, and buying up the h...
10x? Where did that number come from?
The GPUs are about 4-5x as powerful (depending on which machine you're talking about), and the CPUs are about 2x what the 360 CPU was (which is still weaker than a well-utilized Cell).
They have 16x the memory, but I'm not seeing "10x the power" anywhere. If they actually had 10x the power, we would be seeing true 1080p left and right ...and also, they would cost $600.
You guys have got to be kidding.
No matter how much I like Nathan Drake, Lara Croft would demolish him in a gun fight, kung fu fight, etc. any day of the week.
Have you guys even played these games? Drake does some good stuff... against mostly humans. Croft takes down T-Rexs, John Woo style, and downs some supernatural stuff that would send Drake runnin' for the hills -- because he is sane, and Lara is... not so much. There is no contest as to who is t...
A console monopoly is the LAST thing we want, during this age of digital downloads, folks.
Think before you fanboy. ...I know that can be hard for some.
Some interesting CPU tidbits:
* A mispredicted branch can stall one of these processor cores for a good 100+ cycles, if the instruction cache needs to be refreshed.
* Branches are ANY if(){}, for(){}, while(){}, switch(){} clause in code -- they are incredibly commonplace.
* Branch predictors are only decent in tight loops. Most CPU game code is not tight loops.
* Data cache misses account for more than 50% of the CPU time o...
More likely the opposite. That Civic had a lot of great miles on it, and its hard to leave behind, but sometimes the Ferrari is just too shiny to say no.
Umm. No.
You think IW was a bunch of pleebs being led by the small number of folks who went to Respawn, eh? That sounds like something John Romero would say, and honestly believe, back in the day, when he thought he could bless a company with good fortune, just by his presence.
Good teams are not merely led by small numbers of great people. Good teams are great people, with non-idiots at the helm. The IW leads who went to respawn weren't idiots, but t...
Not true. Veteran game developers are not flighty, unless there is something wrong. I'm guessing that's "not enough money", in this instance.
ND has loads of pedigree -- Sony just doesn't have the funds to pay devs well enough for their time. Activision does, plain and simple.
Sony doesn't pay their 1st party as well as some other publishers pay some of their top tier teams, and that area of California is particularly harsh, with regards to cost-of-living.
There's no other reason. They're probably not unhappy at ND, except for the money, most likely.
Even if the XBox division didn't make a profit (which it does -- it covers the losses of the phone division), it would be a stupid move to sell it off.
MS doesn't make much money on games -- or rather that's not really the point of XBox. They care about other *platforms* invading the home. These platforms (read: other operating systems than Windows) are largely comprised of tablets, phones, and... you guessed it, consoles. Abandoning any of these "alternat...
TBH Betas are basically a finished product, with some outstanding bugs.
They aren't gonna change the game (outside of serious bugfixes), or do any serious rebalancing -- they don't have enough time left. In fact, the game would have had to have gone gold, and is off to the manufacturing facility already, to hit stores by Sept. 9.
Any bugs they fix now are gonna have to be in the industry standard Day One Patch. That'll be your first experience w...
It gets old kinda fast. It was fun in alpha, but its wearing thin.
It's just not as good as the games it emulates (Halo, Borderlands), in the end.
This guy is right. Without competition, either company would be bending (gamers) over.
TBH, bad press for the guys not in "first", at this point, is probably bad for gamers in general. We don't want another console monopoly to cause stagnation and raise prices.
The PS2 killed the DC and stomped the GC, resulting in Sega withdrawing from the console market, and Nintendo turning to the casual audience. It's only because MS is so stubborn th...
Only a moron shareholder would actually want MS to drop the livingroom.
What do you suppose would happen to MS Windows and Office, if everyone replaced their PC with an iPad/Android Tablet, and paired it with a built-in TV browser or set-top Android box? Why do you think MS now offers Office under iOS?
MS absolutely must fight for the livingroom -- because the PC that has been their mainstay for so long, is withering. You know why the XBox is called that? ...
The game seems fun, but I can't see myself paying a fee to play it, or buying a lot of DLC/microtransactions.
Spending $500M on it seems like... a bad idea. If I had Activision stock, I'd totally sell it right now.
I find it strange that the first three comments, on this article, or anything having to do with MS, are typically by the same 3 posters -- all of whom are "reading the article for you", and in fact their comments are completely uninformed and erroneous. (I wonder if one, or all three, of these posters used to be named 'MariaHelFutura'?)
It's almost as if "they" are attempting to deceive the readers of N4G into believing their made-up assumptio...
It's a sad day when someone makes a PC rig, not only without a keyboard, mouse, and OS ($130+ combined), but also without a case to try and squeeze in under the $400 mark. People who buy consoles do NOT have spare PC parts lying around -- that's why they are console gamers, and not already PC gamers.
What would a PS4 cost, without a case, controller, and if they never made/licensed a new OS for it? I'm guessing around $300, and it'd still be better than the ...
