You already have the lesser console if you are playing on Xbox One... If people playing games at a higher resolution and better graphics bothers you you wouldn't own an Xbox One...
Those weren't optional if you wanted to play all games whereas the basic PS4 will continue to play all future PS4 games.
They aren't replacing the PS4, they are providing an optional upgrade, the basic PS4 will continue to play games like it has always played games.
There is no reason to believe developers will start releasing shitty games on the basic PS4 with a 40 million + install base for a new platform with currently no install base. This will just lose developers money and give them a bad reputation. Most quality developers want you to actually buy their games.

The PS4 has hundreds of more games than the Xbox One made up of more AAA and way more indies. The PS4 has the highest rated exclusives, both AAA and indie as well.
The Xbox One only has 4 real exclusives and two are Forza games and the other is another Halo game.
