Remember when Man Hunt for PSP originally had a leaked copy of the version that wasn't released to the public that showed the kills and it didn't have the same amount of blood or grain. That was a pretty cool copy in comparison.

As far as when it's okay, when you can no longer purchase the game from the publisher or 1st hand stores new. And the only way to find it is in digital format or the only hard copies are so collectible and spares that the prices are ridiculous. If it's worth the money to you then just purchase the product. If you don't have the money then work harder for it because it's worth it to you.
In games that didn't have trophies I would often do some extra work collecting to trade them in for some unique item in game. Like the side quests in GTA, doing taxi runs to unlock a cool custom taxi, vigilante missions to get the wanted star deals at your home. in FF IX hunting for treasure with your chocobo to get a baddass weapon. In ratchet and clank I did quite a bit of collecting to unlock Insomniac museum, and that gun that when fired plays music and makes big boom (Rino V).

And this crap they are spouting about it having the best web browsing experience is really mute as soon as you find out it doesn't have adobe flash capability. If you already have an iphone having this bigger version of it does you very little. The iphone was cool because it's done so much in such a small package, the ipad should really offer more of what we've gained to expect from a PC.

10 years ago you were still playing Baldur's Gate II and Counter Strike. You are sadly missing out on a lot of exclusive goodness from some great gaming companies.

I would only say it was exclusive if it wasn't available on another system with just a different control scheme. We just don't know what these games will be yet, and if they will be available on other systems.
Hopefully ubisoft is thinking beyond what made the Nintendo Glove work with other games already released.
Some people have a limited amount of time. I have about enough free time to complete 4-5 games a year.
I have a huge back log of games because there are tons of great games I purchased with intent to play that I haven't gotten around to. If I dwell on one for too long I'll never get through my list of things to play and never move on to some of the newest latest releases.
Which reminds me I played too much Diablo II in the late 90's and missed out on some PS1 goodness.
