That's probably because it's a Microsoft product and after Windows 95, 98, ME, XP, Vista, 7 (mine works fine, tho) and Xbox 360 have all had big problems (especially Vista and 360). Screw ups in M$'s part is almost expected.
Sony does (sometimes very expensive) hardware. Not much of their products have crapped out other than that laptop battery recall. When something goes down from Sony, as incredibly minor and ridiculously stupid as it may be, it's big news.

By far the best OS they've made since XP. In some cases, I'd say it's better considering it has much less problems.
I'm not convinced that the 90 million is sold separately. I'd say more than half of 7 was moved by laptops and computers that have it pre-installed. Didn't they work out a deal with Sony to have every Vaio a Windows 7 standard?
Anyways, it's still nice to see they finally did something right and, other than the big screen problem it had in the beginning...
