It's true, Naughty Dog have been around for 24 years and have only made 2 great games, TLoU & UC2.
Studios like Sony Santa Monica have been around for 14 years and have made 3 great games GoW 1, 2 & 3... If you include their collaborations then there's also Flower, Journey, Twisted Metal Black etc.
Media Molecule have only been around for 7 years and have release 2 great games with LBP 1 & 2 and arguably the best Vita game with Tearaway. ...
I haven't played Knack yet but watching walkthroughs online I can't see much variety or complexity at all? In what way are you doing more than in any GoW? I mean just looking at the basic gameplay, in Knack you dodge, attack, jump and that's it. GoW you dodge, attack, jump, block, parry.
Castlevania: Lords of Shadow took over a year & a budget price to sell over 1 million copies on PS3 + 360 whereas a disappointing game like God of War: Ascension sold almost 2 million copies on PS3 alone in less than a year, there's no justice in that, C:LoS was tragically overlooked.
And even though the game averaged in the very decent low/mid 80s it's still quite a bit underrated, it is a 90%+ quality game up there with the greats of the genre.
Castlevania: Lords of Shadow and Alan Wake.
This isn't SSM's game they just share technological expertise with RaD, why would they make them mindless beasts? This is a completely different kind of game so I'm sure the enemies will behave differently to GoW.
Also since when were beasts mindful? If the beasts still retain some humanity that could be interesting but straight up beasts should behave in a more feral and mindless manner.
TLoU isn't even the best looking PS3 game, GoW3/A, Beyond and UC3 look better.
The comparison to Dead Rising 3 is beyond stupid. Not only does D3 look better but it is set in a huge sandbox environment filled with thousands of zombies... TLoU is a slightly open linear affair and rarely had more than 5 enemies on screen at once which means they can push visuals further without worrying about framerate issues.
You don't really appreciate how menacing Kratos' blade looks until you've seen it recreated in real life. Holy shit, I want a pair! Amazing work.
Sony need a western RPG, some believe Sony Santa Monica's new IP is an open world sci-fi RPG, that would be beyond awesome.
Apparently Guerrilla Games are working on a RPG?
Why when God of War 1, 2, 3 are masterpieces and GoS & CoO are immaculate portable games.
Just because 1 game out of 6 is sub-par doesn't mean they shouldn't make more, especially since this is Sony's 2nd biggest and 1st most beloved franchise.
What people are forgetting when mentioning that Bayonetta sold 2 million on PS3 + 360 is that 50%+ of those sales were at bargain bin prices. It may have sold a decent amount of copies but it took too long at a price too low for Sega to make much or any profit from the game.
However, Sega should have taken the risk of making Bayonetta 2 on PS3 + 360 (and/or even PS4 + X1) since the fan-base was already established and with 2 million copies sold and however many people buying...
Naughty Dog haven't crafted a good story since the Jak and Daxter series.
What they do well is story-telling, a.k.a. the cinematography, character animation, amazing voice actors, great writing. The actual plot in all of the Uncharted games is absolute child-level rubbish. TLoU had a decent plot but it was very cliché.
I have faith that The Order 1886 will raise the bar for story-driven TPS games that TLoU set, it has a much more interesting premise,...
Huh, why are you bringing up Forza?
Since you did let me just say you are wrong. Forza games normally sell between 2-3 million without bundling, 4-5 million with.
And when was Forza bundled with Skyrim? Skyrim has never had an official console bundle.
GT5 was bundled from launch and it's still being bundled to date. It sells well early but the hype dies down fairly quickly and then it mostly depends on bundling to keep up a good pace. <...
The point is in the same amount of time GT6 sold 5 times less than GT5. The UK is a huge market for GT and if GT6 done so poorly here it must have done so everywhere else.
God of War 2 released a couple of months after the PS3 launched and it did amazingly well, almost as well as GoW1 but that's probably because at the time PS3's were backwards compatible so a lot of people could simply play the game on their PS3.
I did that myself and I know a lot ...
That's not true at all.
GT5 released to a huge amount of hype, it sold 2.4 million copies in its first week, with heavy bundling it went on to sell over 10.6 million to date. Without the mass bundling it would've only hit 9 million lifetime, which is still crazy huge.
GT6 released to no hype, its first week will be around 800k, just 1/3 what GT5 did. Even with heavy bundling it will only sell about 7 million lifetime. That's about 5 million not i...
Why do some people have such a hard time understanding the great story in God of War III? The author of the article got it completely wrong.
1. He wasn't looking for the power to kill just any God but the king of the God, he's the most powerful and thus Kratos needed more power to kill him than the lesser Gods.
2. Why don't people understand that the power of hope isn't a psychological sort of inner-strength where Kratos has to believe in hi...
Same here, God of War III is my favourite game last generation, it's just a masterpiece.
Also GoW3 alone saved the genre from becoming irrelevant, imagine it didn't release to universal critical acclaim & huge commercial success which inspired so many other games and confidence within the industry that hack 'n slash games can still make a lot of money. The genre would be near enough dead by now without GoW.
It's such a shame about God of ...
Don't forget Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2! It's going to be the swan song of the 7th generation.
I'm loving the premise of this game, can't believe only 4 people are developing it... amazing.
To the people questioning this projects ambition, it's being made by Ready at Dawn. Enough said really.
They are amazing developers. They worked magic on the PSP, they're the SSM/ND of the portable world, they're just as talented as those studios too and you can tell how amazingly passionate and excited they are to be making their first console game, it's going to be amazing.
Also some interviews have shared cool details and the screenshots ...
