Definitely not in the core gameplay. The witcher 3 had some very sloppy mechanics and that view was vindicated following them confirming they had no gameplay designers.
@SkatterBrain
The same way they figured out the Xbox One came after the Xbox 360. Or do you think parents went into the store asking for the Xbox 359 in the hopes it would be slightly cheaper than the 360?
MS employee says MS game looks good. How shocking.
@Knushwood Butt
So why are you commenting? If you agree with my what are you trying to do? You posted a link in opposition without reading it and now just completely agree.
AMAZIN!
"I'm not commenting on the naming of the new xbox."
That is literally the entire point of my comment so why are you responding to it?
@multiconsolegamers
Because believe it or not the value of a gaming company is based on more than just how much stock a retailer has of their product.
@Knushwood
Again, you're not quoting him. Sorry, but I read the article and Iwata does not say that the name was the primary or sole cause for the Wii U's failure. He specifically says people thought it was a peripheral because of the marketing focusing on the controller rather than the system.
This makes the Wii U analogy inaccurate when comparing it to the Series X. I think your problem is that you've not read my comment correctly. The name ...
"But it wasn’t just the great games that defined what PlayStation Vita was (though it did have a super line up of launch titles)."
Let's not fool ourselves here. The vita at the absolute best had decent games but nothing all that amazing. The system had value as an on the go indie machine but just about every exclusive title it got from an established Sony franchise felt like a discount version of the PS3 versions. It did bring us Gravity Rush and Tearaway whi...
"who is playing the more advanced System?"
The one who's playing on a system that actually exists.
@KyRo
***"You said it right there. The screen was the face of the controller."***
Yes... I said it right there. The controller was the face of the system in the marketing, so casual consumers didn't realise it was an all new console.
The branding wasn't enough alone to cause this; if anything it was the least damaging decision made. The marketing was terrible, their messaging was terrible, their imagery during presenta...
@Knushwood Butt
Thank you for providing a link that backs up my position:
"Some have the misunderstanding that Wii U is just Wii with a pad for games, and others even consider Wii U GamePad as a peripheral device connectable to Wii,"
+1 for Mr Iwata. He recognises that there was an image issue. He said nothing about the name in that article so don't know why you think he did.
@AspiringProGenji
Show me a source where Nintendo considers the name to be the primary cause of the systems struggles (you dont need to btw). Even if Nintendo themselves said that they'd be wrong. Systems dont completely fail because of their names.
Questionable marketing that doesnt distinguish itself from the previous system, an image that puts the system in the background and the focus on the controller, documented issues that make developing for t...
Consoles have looked like a barbeque too.
The god has spoken. It is now gospel.
You would need to demonstrate that the naming of the Wii U was the primary cause of the confusion. Everyone is basing this, for the Series X, on the name and nothing more. The reality is that the confusion for the Wii U came from the controller being the face of the system. We can even see this in how the controller takes up more space than the system in the marketing: 2292d ago 13 agree19 disagreeView comment
@2pacalypsenow
Everything you said isn't a refutation of what this article said. You attacked it because you misunderstood the title and refused to read past it.
"I mean it's not like we're talking about some rookie developers here, they're freaking Infinity Ward."
Yeah, and they had zero equipment at the start. Have you seen the story of the studios beginnings? How bare and empty the studio was and having to n...
The only game that anyone could possibly use to defend Bungie as developer of the decade is Halo: Reach. Destiny is an uninspired mess of a game so they get zero praise for that. They created an mmo-lite which was guilty of making the same mistakes other mmos learnt from years before. That alone shows how out of their depth they were with this project.
It blows my mind how they got so sick of making Halo, but then go on to make a game with mechanics that are eerily reminisc...
In what way did Destiny shape modern games? I cant see how this game is what others drew inspiration from.
@Atom666
4 successful games***
They've had TF1, TF2, Apex Legends and Fallen Order. Incredibly good record for a new studio in that timespan.
@2pacalysenow
You've got two lessons to take away from this:
1. Understand the flexibility of usage for the word "won".
2. Learn to read past the headline.
The article isn't saying there are any losers this generation, or that Respawn was in a competition with anyone else. It's talking about how they were a new studio following the Infinity Ward controversy and that they've now gone on to become a resp...
