I think it's not necessarily a major issue but it does speak about the gaming community at large. It's an 18-49 male demo, emphasis on the male. The God of War developers understand this and for an action game geared towards males, it's a perfect fit.
It also shows just how thin the line is between catering to a specific demo and just out-right schilling to them. A God of War game has enough violence, mayhem, sexual gratuity, etc. to please any average violence...
I completely agree with the "Social" aspect.
As much as I like the idea of building a city with someone, online gaming has taught me one thing: Gamers truly are a pile of garbage.
Yes, there are good, respectable, honest, and cooperative gamers out there that want to get together to have a good time. However I find myself running into a LOT of selfish, greedy, disregarding players.
If you want "Always online / Social / Cooper...
@Saryk
...and had the game been inundated with an "Offline single-player" function, we'd' just hear news articles about the Multiplayer element not working, but hey, enjoy the Single Player!
The fact that people can't play the game AT ALL IS BECAUSE THE DRM.
They're mutually exclusive; no DRM = offline single-player capability like a lot of other games right now.
*sigh* I was commenting on the irony that people are raising their pitchforks against micro-transactions when they already allowed the gaming industry to enact rules stating you do NOT own your console and you do NOT own the games that you play.
...I guess people are still under the assumption that they're not "renting" their services for a fee.
"I am a free gamer on the PS3"
Which part? The part where you don't own the hardware that you bought? Or the part where you don't own any of the games you play? Or the part about if you don't agree with their terms of agreements you are null & voided from using said products?
True, but we're forgetting one underlying factor: The game is completely unplayable for people who purchased the game.
If you bought a toaster and then told "Oh, it may not work the first couple of days/weeks that you bought it", wouldn't be a little bit concerned / confused? How about a car? How about your iTunes music you bought?
"We're sorry, but you can't actually play that album you bought for another few days/weeks"...
^ What Kevnb said.
I understand the cost issue, however you cannot, as a company that seeks out to make money, justify that by making your game a mess on Day 1 that this is a positive thing.
Most organizations perform a "Risk Assessment" - an analysis as to what has the most risk for being a costly risk as well as what can be deemed "acceptable losses".
If EA thinks that bad PR, angry consumers, and Game review companies a...
No capitalization at the beginning of sentences and using "ur" instead of "your".
Yep, sounds like a troll to me.
Holy crap, there really must be nothing else to talk about seeing as how this website has devoted pretty much EVERY story to another website's preview that was ALREADY EXPLAINED.
Jesus, ENOUGH with the ACIV info!
If you need new info, then how about this: Just like the last few AC games, it looks great with all the CGI trailers but it will ultimately be a disappointment as UBIsoft will be developing the game. Bugs, glitches, poor combat, and a general &...
...keep in mind that Battlefield 3, the Call of Duty series, etc. were originally using the PC as the "Lead Platform", that is until they admitted quietly that it wasn't.
Bringing Connor back as the main character = daily Steam sale purchase at best.
There is NO WAY I'm paying full price for another AC game, not when UBI soft gives me a broken, mediocre game.
You know, I was just thinking (before the PS4 was announced) how N4G had been posting a lot of articles pertaining to game design, interviews with developers, previews of future franchises....
or as I like to put it: News.
Thank god PS4 made it's annoucement so the fanboys of EVERY GAMING SYSTEM can make their pointless voices heard! For a second there, I thought our fanbase was finally maturing and allowing our industry to become a professional, but above all...
Here's how the real world works with technology/anything:
If I buy a house, car, etc. and NEVER upgrade anything on it, it will deteriorate.
For example, if you buy a car but don't replace your brake pads, get the transmission changed, rotate the tires, put in new air fresheners, etc, EVENTUALLY it won't be of any value.
Now if I take the exact same car, replace the tires, replace the brakes, add a sound system, heck even replace ...
As PC gamer, I think I can clarify why there's so much animosity towards the console.
Imagine for the longest time, games were made with the ability to tweak, mod, and overall improve the game by utilizing the actual gamer community. This allowed games to have more longevity (Quake 3) and create amazing mods/alterations that created new ideas like Star Wars: Battlefront coming from the Battlefield series.
Even Half-Life 2 helped spawn the massively succ...
SONY did exactly what they set out to do: Create hype and give just a smidgen of exposure to create a wave of "ZOMG!111!!" PS fandom until E3.
Make no mistake - They're here to sell a PRODUCT, not to change the world. They didn't show actual details because they WANTED PS fans to bow down and pray to their idol so they could have a lot of energy going into E3.
Think I'm wrong? This wasn't called the "Playstation 4 reveal"...
"There's no right or wrong answer here. Just have fun and play games."
According to your Agree/Disagree ratio, N4G users have offically taken the stance that: No, it's right or wrong. No fun allowed. No playing games Play how I want to play with the Controller/KB&M!
Another factor that Nintendo didn't account for in the casual games market: Smartphones and tablets.
Smartphones and tablets are rapidly entering average households and a LOT of casual, fun games are either free or minimal cost.
I think the Wii U may have been the answer to losing the Hardcore gamers to Xbox/PS3/PC and casual markets to Smartphones/Tablets.
Unfortunately, Nintendo's stubborn way of doing things will inevitably be the...
So essentially what we have here is another opinion piece about how a gamer couldn't get into a game and then ends it with a list of things that will "make future games better".
...to who? You? The public?
Could video game bloggers FOR ONCE make an opinion piece that sticks to the principles of KEEPING IT ABOUT WHAT THE AUTHOR THINKS? Too many times it goes from "I feel that" to "The game failed/flopped because" and turn it ...
If Consumer Reports was reviewing a new car, and the company told them:
"Oh by the way, there are no brakes at the moment of your review, but don't worry - when we sell them to the customer, we'll slap'em on!"
Would Consumer Reports even CONSIDER reviewing it? I know it's an extreme case, but why have we the consumers allow game companies to just make everything a "day 1 oops!"
Probably not DRM / Piracy as it will most likely be a lot harder for consles.
Advertising potential? Gaming stat collection for future plans like DLC, microtransactions, etc? Social networking oversight for future projects?
....If above are potential for more $$$$ for either Microsoft or SONY, then my answer is:
Absolutely. Maybe not in the BEGINNING due to the Diablo/SimCity fiascos, but give it a year or two.
